Continuing from our story from yesterday, part of our drive-about included stopping at Washington’s birthplace. It is an interesting visit to see where he was born, although the house no longer exists there is a ground marker where the foundation was and you can see the size…very small for a large family. There is also a Memorial House that is a structure that represents a house of the period. Always interesting to me are the outbuildings….kitchen, barns, weaving rooms, etc. The kitchen house was quite large. Exploring history is still so important…the things we discover…the gratitude we must feel for how far we have come. As Washington said, “How much more delightful….is the task of making improvements on the earth, than all the vain glory which can be acquired from ravaging it…”
