This week I worked with the 4th grade students at Leslie Fox Keyser Elementary School to produce the 175th Anniversary Painting.  The first day Doug Stanley, County Administrator, reviewed the history of Warren County while I gave an overview of the material we would use in the paintings.

I also did a quick demo of some of the brush strokes they would use as well as a color mixing demo of certain colors they would use.  They seemed fascinated.

Then on the second day of the project they started painting.  I will share more of their work soon.  Today was their final day of painting and Hagerstown TV came to do a story.  The kids were so excited.  Take a look at the story here.

The next step in the process for the Art Residency project was to start sketching out the different elements.  And then to paint.

Here you can see the beginning of A. S. Rhodes Elementary school, the Gazebo, the entrance sign to Shenandoah National Park and a barn.  Look closely and you will see the Courthouse is sketched in as well.

And today I actually start the project with the kids at A.S. Rhodes Elementary and Hilda J. Barbour Elementary.  Can’t wait to meet the 16 kids at each school.  Hopefully they will be excited about painting and about the project.

Sadie Lady is a Jack Russell Mix.  The painting is an acrylic on 12″x12″ gallery wrap canvas.  SOLD!   Sadie is one of my granddogs.

A couple of years ago, Allen’s daughter appeared at my door early one morning with Sadie in tow.  She was doing her morning walk and this little dog “started following her”.  She wanted me to take it.  At the time I had three dogs and said, Oh, no!  I convinced her to take it home and call the shelter to see if anyone was missing a little girl like her.  She ended up taking her to the shelter.  Then regretting it.  As soon as Sadie was available for adoption she went right back out and got her.  She had been a much-loved member of the family ever since.   🙂

She’s a little spoiled, but hey, shouldn’t all dogs be spoiled???!!!

Here I am with Sadie with the evil eyes at Christmas this year.  She thinks she should always be in someones lap or arms.
