Kids Class with Cardinals

Kids Class with Cardinals

We had 3 terrific art classes yesterday, as we usually do on Wednesdays.  We had a mother-daughter guest duo paint with us in the morning.  They did super work on the poppy field….and Mom said “I have never painted before.  I can’t paint”.   And of course, I said, “Yes, you can!”  And she did.  🙂

And our afternoon kid’s class painted these lovely little female cardinals in the snow.  Great work!!!

Bob CatYesterday I continued with the 3-Day Challenge on Facebook where I was asked to post three paintings a day for a week and challenge another artist to do the same.  My three paintings yesterday were of pet portraits…one of my favorite subjects.  One of the paintings I shared was of Bob Cat, one of Allen’s warehouse kitties.  He is a handsome cat and got his name because he loves to sit on the seat of the Bobcat equipment there.  If he was a human his job would be “heavy equipment operator”.  🙂

Painting pets is so great fun.  You can do it too at our 3rd Saturday Paint Party coming up this Saturday at 3 pm at The Studio.  Check out more information here.

The kids painted some beautiful “Birch Trees at Night” in their class yesterday.  Super work!  They look great.

And I had a teaching assistant at all my classes yesterday.  Daisy is a one-year-old Westie who is a neighbor’s pup.  They had to go out-of-town on an emergency last Sunday night and so Daisy came to stay with us.  She is an adorable, sweet little girl…but make no mistake she is ALL terrier…full of life and mischief!  We are enjoying her.

January 2015 1st Saturday Paint Party

January 2015 1st Saturday Paint Party

The 1st Saturday Paint Party yesterday was painting fruit in miniature.  And boy, did everyone do a great job!  These turned out so good.  We worked in acrylic on 6″x6″ stretched canvas.

Each month on the 1st Saturday we have a Paint Party where we try something different each time.  The great part is that all supplies are included so all you need to do is make a reservation and show up.  Then after a couple of hours you will go home with a wonderful completed painting!  Why don’t you join us next time – February 7th at 3 pm?

Beach Scene in Watercolor Debbies Beach Scene Debbies 1996Here are two more older paintings that Brother and sister-in-law have hanging in their home.

As a daily painter there was a time that I was painting about 250-300 paintings a year…mostly smaller pieces.  Producing so many I lost track of many of them.  I did start keeping better records a few years ago but these were produced before that time.

It’s thrilling for an artist to see their work hanging in homes.  So I really got a kick when visiting Brother’s home to see these.  So glad they enjoy my work.

Gulfstream Final

“Gulfstream”, acrylic on 12″x12″ canvas

I painted this view of a Gulfstream that Brother flies as a Christmas gift to him.  I don’t write about family much so you may not know that Brother is a retired Army aviator and now flies for a large US company’s CEO.  He was an instructor pilot for Gulfstream for many years before going to work for a private company.  He has flown since he was in his mid-teens so it has been really cool to see him do something as a career that he has always enjoyed.

When he was in Virginia on a work visit this past summer I met him at Dulles for lunch and that is when I got the photo of the new plane he was flying and I loved this composition so much that I thought why not paint it for him.

I gave it to him yesterday and I think he liked it!

Happy New Year!
