IFM_bannerI spent a lovely day yesterday in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  I went on a bus trip with a nice group of people who went as a fundraiser for a Relay for Life team and I was told we raised over $500 for them.  Yeah!

I went specifically to see the exhibit- Impressionism, Fashion and Modernity.  And it was well worth the trip.  There were over 80 major paintings of figures clothed in lovely period clothing with actual fashions from the time being shown with the art.  It was fabulous!  You can read more about it here on the Mets website.

Purple Dress 2 Purple DressThis painting, “In the Conservatory (Madame Bartholome) by Albert Bartholome shows his wife entering a door.  Displayed by the painting was the actual dress she wore in the painting.  It was fascinating to see.

If you have an opportunity to get to New York before the show closes on May 22nd be sure to stop into the Metropolitan and enjoy this wonderful exhibit.

Tomorrow I will share my FAVORITE!

And the little cutie in the front middle is Cassie.  She was the life of the party.  🙂  For more information on Paint Parties click here.

Anniv Painting reworkedIn 2011 I taught an artist residency with kids at all five elementary schools to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of Warren County.  We painted a large painting that each school now hangs for everyone to see.  Read more about that project here and here.)  For that project  I painted a sample painting for the kids to see what it was that they would be producing during our time together.  In the upper left corner of each painting that the school kids produced they painted their school.

I decided to  paint out the school and paint the Government Center on the sample painting and then donate it to hang at the Center.  Here is the completed painting.  I am meeting Brandy at the Center this morning to hang the painting and I am very happy that they want to hang it right away.  I’ll try to have some photos to share soon.

Nats Park 95%

Nationals Park
Washington Nationals

The painting of Nationals Park is about 95% finished.  It is the first in the series of 30 Major League Baseball parks I am painting as part of my Kickstarter Project.  If you haven’t looked at my project PLEASE take a minute to look and pledge to make the project a reality.  Thanks!

Now back to the painting.  I often get questions about the process of finishing a painting.  The way I work is that I get a painting to a point where I feel like it’s done and then I hang it and live with it so that I can look at it for a while.  That way I can see if there is anything that I want to tweak.  Maybe there is something that needs to be made stronger or maybe there is something that needs eliminating in order for the  painting to work.  With this one I am at the “living with it stage”.  Now on to paint Orioles Field at Camden Yards.
