My niece Lexie graduated from high school yesterday and I gave her this painting as one of her graduation gifts. She loves blue Hydrangea so I painted this one just for her. It’s a 12″x12″ acrylic on canvas.
Congrats Lex!!!

I got to paint with my young friend, Kaylee, yesterday for the first time in quite a while. She used to paint with me every week so I have missed seeing her. We had a nice visit while she painted this beautiful piece for her great-grandmother Edna who she will be visiting in a few weeks. I know that she will love this thoughtful gift. Nice job Kaylee!

The Thursday kids class painted a beautiful local landscape with a fence and gate in the foreground. They are fantastic! Good job everyone.
And I am sad to say that I will no longer be working with the wonderful ladies at the Southerlands. They have discontinued their art program. I will miss all the fun we have had. Here is Miss Gaylor with the last painting I helped her paint. I will miss them.

Paint Parties are a great way to enjoy some time out with the girls. And everyone has a great time learning to paint. I love the comments from the painters at these parties. Coming into the art room they always say, “I can’t paint. Maybe I’ll just watch”. And then at the end of the evening it’s, “Wow, I can’t believe I did that.” And “That was so much fun, I’m amazed at how great it turned out!”
I’m not sure who has more fun, the painters or me! To learn more or schedule your own party for adults or for kids click here.

We had a terrific class this week where the kids painted representational abstract flowers. Great job everyone. If you have a young artist don’t forget about Art Camp coming up this summer. You can learn more about it here and download the PDF file with schedule and registration form.

At class last night I decided to transform an old abstract painting into something else. You can paint right over some paints and make an entirely different creation. If the paint is especially thick you can sand it down lightly with a fine sandpaper. I am working in acrylic paints with this one that didn’t need sanding. I started with an abstract that I did back in February (you can read about it here) and started painting in a table.
Next I started thinking about where I wanted to add a vase of flowers so that I could paint in a background all around where the flowers would be. And I added a vase and started firming up the shapes of the flowers. Tonight I hope to continue putting in details that will finish it off as a “representational abstract” painting.

A few weeks ago the Thursday Kids class painted the “Cherry Blossoms and the Washington Monument”. What a great job! And thanks to my friend Terri who is also an artist who kindly shared her idea for this painting with us. Hope we made you proud Terri.

I had the most delightful evening leading a Paint Party for Reen’s Birthday. This was a fun group of ladies and they painted some wonderful dogwood paintings. Everyone was so enthusiastic about painting and it came through in their work. Great job everyone….and Happy Birthday Reen!
And the little cutie in the front middle is Cassie. She was the life of the party. 🙂 For more information on Paint Parties click here.
