Hippo Crochet

100_4811I had such fun yesterday crocheting this Hippo.  I didn’t have a pattern just a photo so I had to take out several rows and try again but I think he turned out pretty good.  I don’t know why but I think Hippos are cute!  This guy is going to Delilah’s so you can come by and see him there or if you have a little one that would like a soft Hippo toy as a friend pick him up to take to them.  🙂

I have been working on new baby items for Delilah’s Art and Gifts.  If you need an unusual, handmade baby gift keep this in mind.  There are several fun as well as traditional items to choose from  – baby cocoons perfect for those first fun photos and lovely blankets that will become that handmade piece to be passed down to the next generation.  Be sure to go by Delilah’s to see them all.

Crochet Cat

IMG_20140323_223012 I had fun working on this crochet kitty cat.  And it turned out really cute.  I found this pattern on Ravelry.com – a terrific website for anyone who likes to knit or crochet.  There are loads of patterns and ideas there shared by thousands of crocheters and knitters.

The cat comes from a website that has loads of great stuff.  Check her out here.

Abby and HatYesterday while I was at the shop, Delilah’s Art & Gifts on Main Street in Front Royal, one of the artists who has work at the shop had her granddaughter there.  She is the perfect model for some of the hats at the shop.

Don’t forget that there is a “Buy One – Get One Free” Sale going on with crocheted hats right now.  Stop in.

Puppy cocoon 2I couldn’t do a baby cocoon based on a pup (see yesterday’s post) without doing one like a hound dog so here it is!

CAM06836I have been crocheting baby things again.  I have several friends expecting babies so I have been working on gifts plus items to stock the baby section at Delilah’s.  This little “Terrier Puppy Cocoon” is made of a soft baby yarn and measures 17″ long and 12″ wide and has an opening flap at the top.

CAM06638Several days ago I posted about an organization, Comfort for Critters,  that encourages volunteers to make blankets (knitted, crocheted, or fleece) for shelter animals.  Read that post here.   This is a great way to use up all those partial skeins of yarn you have lying around.

I have made a couple of blankets to take out to our shelter to donate.  The Julia Wagner Animal Shelter has been added to the list of shelters participating in this program so if you knit or crochet or if you enjoy making fleece blankets consider making a few for our shelter and support those animals that are there seeking forever homes.  🙂

0;0;1536;896;404;236A few weeks ago I picked up a crochet magazine and was flipping through it and ran across an article about this wonderful organization.  “Comfort for Critters is a 100% volunteer program that creates handmade blankets to comfort homeless pets living in animal shelters. While these animals await adoption, the blankets provide a comfortable bed year-round. When they are adopted, their blanket goes with them, providing something familiar as they adjust to their “forever family.”

Isn’t this a terrific idea?  So I contacted Linda, the founder, and hooked her up with our shelter and now they are participating.  Of course, I have gobs of yarn pieces that I have started making some blankets out of for them but I thought others might like to know about them because they accept all sorts of blankets, not  just crochet.  Be sure to click on the link and read more about this worthwhile organization.  And if you crochet or knit or even if you like to make the fleece knotted blankets, keep them in mind.

Kitty CozyI crocheted all day yesterday as we were in the midst of a snow storm so there was no going out to work and I just couldn’t get in the mood to paint.  When it’s so cold like it is now I just want to crochet and watch old movies.

I was looking at Pinterest yesterday morning and saw a similar “cat cave” and thought I would try to make one for Allen’s kitty.  I will try to get a pattern written out soon for anyone who wants to try to make one for their cat.  Since I don’t have a cat I used a dog carving in the photo to demonstrate what it would be like.  🙂

CAM06538I have still been crocheting even though I have finished with the “hat project”.  Now it’s on to baby blankets.  I have several friends expecting babies soon so I thought I better get busy making gifts.  I have made a couple using this pattern – Fan Stitch Baby Blanket with Shell Border.  I have again tried to write out the pattern in case you are interested.  The pattern here is for the blanket on the right in the photo.  The other two I just continued using the blanket pattern but changed the color of the yarn.
