January 2014 Paint Your Pet Portrait Party

Yesterday afternoon we had another “Paint Your Pet’s Portrait” Party at the Blue Ridge Arts Council and the painters made wonderful renditions of their pets! Just take a look. And a couple of these folks have never painted before. Can you believe it???!!!

Shelly’s Recent Work

We offer three l adult art classes at the Blue Ridge Arts Council on Wednesdays at 10:30 or 5:30 and Thursday at 5:30. The classes are 1 1/2 hours and are for beginners to advanced paintings. You can join the class at anytime as they are ongoing and each student works on a painting of their choice. (Read more about classes here.) We do all study the same things, however, which is composition and color mixing. I believe once you learn to mix and see colors you really become a good painter.

Shelly has been painting with me for a couple of years and she has a terrific eye for color and color mixing. Here is an example of two of her latest paintings. We work from photographs and the colorful sunset shows just beautifully colors can be added to a painting. Great job Shelly. And the names on the tree is a gift for her son. What a thoughtful and fun painting. Keep up the excellent work Shelly!

The 1st Saturday Paint Party was FUN yesterday. We painted our pet’s portrait. They all turned out fabulous! It was a fun evening with lots of wonderful snacks and lots of laughing. Thanks for the fun party girls. And your paintings are vibrant and gorgeous! Great job!

Yesterday we had the adult “Paint Your Own Pet Portrait” workshop and we had a great group that painted some terrific portraits.

Yesterday afternoon we had the Kid’s “Paint Your Own Pet Portrait” Workshop. It was so much fun!!!! The kids did superb work on their portraits. We had dogs, cats, and horses. They were all so different and all so good! Great job young artists. I love seeing the enthusiasm of young painters creating beautiful art.

Many thanks to my good friend and great painter, Linda, who helped with this large group. Couldn’t have done it without your help.

We have an adult workshop today from 4-7. Let me know if you want to come join us.

Jeff’s Sunflowers

I love watching students finish paintings that they are working on in class. Jeff paints with us when he is in town and he just completed this wonderful sunflower painting as a Christmas gift. It turned out great and I know they will be thrilled to receive such a wonderful surprise.

You may know Jeff as Breezy’s dad. Breeze comes to class to and we love it when she does. Here’s an old picture of Breeze posing with the kids at art camp one summer. Or maybe you need a few hours without the kids to do some last-minute shopping or gift wrapping? Let the kids come to the “Paint Your Own Pet Workshop” next weekend. Or you come to the adult workshop and paint one for yourself!

There will be two workshops – one for kids and one for adults. These workshops will provide everything you need to create a “Masterpiece”.
