Maddie and Jim 2

Maddie and Granddaddy (Jim) with their finished paintings

Maddie and Granddaddy (Jim) with their finished paintings

Sometimes really special things happen at The Studio when I teach.  This week I got to enjoy one of them.  For Christmas a couple of young girls gave their granddaddy a gift certificate to The Studio.  They knew he was getting ready to retire and they were suggesting an option of some things he might like to try.

This week he used his gift to paint with one of his granddaughters….one who has taken classes and art camp with me before.  So Maddie and Jim painted these wonderful beach scenes.  Maddie helped Jim learn about color mixing and painting.   They were so much fun and adorable together.  So glad they had a fun time and created this great memory at The Studio. Nice work!

Beach Scene II

Beach Scene II

We had a new student in our morning painting class yesterday.  And when someone  new joins the class I usually paint along with them on the first painting they do so as to show them how to color mix and use brushes, etc.  She chose a beach scene as her first painting.  The one she did has just the dune on the left but before the evening painting class I worked on it a little more and added a little more interest.

So this is “Beach Scene II”, acrylic on canvas panel, 8″x10″.

Beach Scene in Watercolor Debbies Beach Scene Debbies 1996Here are two more older paintings that Brother and sister-in-law have hanging in their home.

As a daily painter there was a time that I was painting about 250-300 paintings a year…mostly smaller pieces.  Producing so many I lost track of many of them.  I did start keeping better records a few years ago but these were produced before that time.

It’s thrilling for an artist to see their work hanging in homes.  So I really got a kick when visiting Brother’s home to see these.  So glad they enjoy my work.

At the Young Artist classes over the last three weeks we have been working on a masterpiece!  Normally we paint an 8×10 or 9×12 painting each week.  But recently we worked on these large 16″x20″ paintings of a beach scene.  It’s good for them to paint large from time to time just to see what it’s like to cover a canvas that big and to have a nice large painting to enjoy.  Good job guys.  Keep up the good work.

Yesterday at Art Class my young students painted a beach scene. They had requested that we do a beach landscape several weeks ago.  So we did.  And didn’t they do a fabulous job!!!   Keep in mind that the class is only an hour-long and they did this in that time.  Good work everybody!

(This is the demo that I did for them.)

One of my regular Art Class students asked me a few weeks ago if I would work with her grandchildren when they visited this month.  And, of course, I said yes.  And boy did they turn out to be the most delightful kids.  Evan and Lane are from Washington, DC but were here for a few days visiting the grandparents.

They came in with the best attitudes about taking the class and were all about having a good time and learning.  What fun that makes it for me.  🙂

And for their first time in painting class, they both did an excellent job!  Don’t you think?

Come back anytime.  You were both so much fun.
