A Beach Lesson

We had a new student in our morning painting class yesterday. And when someone new joins the class I usually paint along with them on the first painting they do so as to show them how to color mix and use brushes, etc. She chose a beach scene as her first painting. The one she did has just the dune on the left but before the evening painting class I worked on it a little more and added a little more interest.
So this is “Beach Scene II”, acrylic on canvas panel, 8″x10″.
Meaningful Paintings

One of the great things about painting is that you can capture subjects that are meaningful to you. Jean, a Wednesday evening student, recently completed this landscape painting. It is a scene of a Ranger Station (in the foreground) in a town in Africa that she and her family visited last year. They visited places that her family is from and that were meaningful to her family. Since then the volcano that is seen in the distance behind the station in her painting erupted and the building as well as the village was razed. This painting is all the more special now. Great job Jean!

The demonstration painting from The Village at Orchard Ridge class is finally complete. (Here is an earlier look at this painting.) Since we only meet 2 Fridays per month it takes a little longer to complete these. And I want to be sure the students get their painting to the place they want it to be before we call it done. They all did great!
Now to see what they want to paint next!

Great work!
