We try various styles of art in our classes. The kids are open to trying it all. Here are the representational abstract floral that we did some time back. Very imaginative and striking! Good job!

Yesterday at Kid’s class we had a great time painting something a little more challenging than usual. But the kids jumped right in and did a great job. We painted from this cute photo of my godson Chase with his dog Rue! They are waiting at the door for their dad to come home. Could he be any more cute?
Great job everyone!

The Thursday kids class painted a beautiful local landscape with a fence and gate in the foreground. They are fantastic! Good job everyone.
And I am sad to say that I will no longer be working with the wonderful ladies at the Southerlands. They have discontinued their art program. I will miss all the fun we have had. Here is Miss Gaylor with the last painting I helped her paint. I will miss them.
Paint Parties are Fun for All!

Paint Parties are a great way to enjoy some time out with the girls. And everyone has a great time learning to paint. I love the comments from the painters at these parties. Coming into the art room they always say, “I can’t paint. Maybe I’ll just watch”. And then at the end of the evening it’s, “Wow, I can’t believe I did that.” And “That was so much fun, I’m amazed at how great it turned out!”
I’m not sure who has more fun, the painters or me! To learn more or schedule your own party for adults or for kids click here.

I love sharing the art that my students make. Here are two of my Wednesday students. This is Mary’s first painting. She just joined us in class on Wednesday morning and we had a wonderful time making this mountain scene. Great job Mary and welcome to our class!
And you recognize Pat. She has been painting with me on Wednesday evenings for a couple of years and does wonderful work that her friends and family fight over. This beautiful painting is of her daughter’s home. It looks fabulous Pat!

Transforming an Old Painting

At class last night I decided to transform an old abstract painting into something else. You can paint right over some paints and make an entirely different creation. If the paint is especially thick you can sand it down lightly with a fine sandpaper. I am working in acrylic paints with this one that didn’t need sanding. I started with an abstract that I did back in February (you can read about it here) and started painting in a table.
Next I started thinking about where I wanted to add a vase of flowers so that I could paint in a background all around where the flowers would be. And I added a vase and started firming up the shapes of the flowers. Tonight I hope to continue putting in details that will finish it off as a “representational abstract” painting.

This week at Kids Class we painted the Front Royal Caboose. It was an ambitious project for an hour-long class but we did it! Marvelous! They look so good. Keep up the good work.
