My Wednesday Adult Class was jealous that I had only posted my young artist’s paintings recently so they posed for me last night.  Here’s Pat with her terrific painting of Jack and Pokey.  And Shelly is hiding behind the lovely door painting that she is working on this week.  Nice job ladies.

And here are the young artists with their finished Jackson Pollack inspired drip painting.  Excellent!

Representational Abstract is a form of painting that combines the loose ease of abstract with art we recognize.  Even though we see the bright colors and long brush strokes in this work we can still see that it looks like a landscape scene.

This is some of the things we will explore on Saturday at the Art Workshop in Strasburg.  Join us for three hours of fun and learning.  Contact kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com .

Over the ages it has been a common practice for artists to copy famous painters work in order to learn technique, style, and color mixing.   Degas, Monet, Renoir, and many of the famous names you will recognize applied and received copiers permission to copy paintings in the Louvre.

Following in their footsteps, our Art Campers are learning about a variety of artists this week by copying famous paintings.  They  completed their Matisse painting.  They turned out great.

Today we will finish up art camp by finishing our Picassos and our Van Goghs!  Good job everyone.

Yesterday the famous painter that we discussed was Jackson Pollack.  Then we went outside to immolate his style by painting with sticks to drip and splatter the canvas.

Of course, this was the most fun the kids have had painting so far.  Here they are with their finished paintings and at work:

Art Camp continues.  This week our focus is on Modern Art.  First we produced a color wheel to learn more about color mixing.

Then we applied what we had learned about color to painting  Rothko-like modern paintings.

The young artists did a great job producing these wonderful colors using only blue, yellow, red and white on their palettes.  Don’t you think?
