At the final day of “Nature: Flowers and Trees” Art Camp we painted a vase of representational abstract flowers using three techniques. First we painted the background and vase with brushes. Then we used paper towels to lay in the flower shapes. Then we finished them using finger painting. Boy, was that fun!!!! Great job by this group of young painters. We have just one session of Art Camp left this summer and it is for ages 5-7. Click here to register your young painter.

Art Camp continued with our nature theme yesterday as we painted a beautiful tree with an old tire swing. The kids did an amazing job. Don’t you love them???!!! And then, because this group is so attentive we had enough time left at the end of the session to paint these cute little chocolate chip cookie bonus paintings. Nice!!!

Our “Nature: Flowers and Trees” week continues at The Studio with these beautiful flower paintings. Didn’t these young painters do an amazing job on these???!!!! So pretty. We’ve got a great group of painters this week.

Free motion quilting is a form of quilting that can be done on many domestic sewing machines. The feed dogs are lowered and you can move the fabric in the designs of your choice. If you want to learn this fun method of quilting join us at The Studio for a beginning class. You can move beyond straight line quilting and learn the basics of Free Motion quilting. This will move your work up to the next level. This class will teach the basics to get you started on the road to free motion on Saturday morning, August 27th at 10 am.
Class requirements: Must have some experience sewing on machine. Must bring your machine for this class. Be sure your machine will drop the feed dogs so you can free motion. (Contact Kelly if you aren’t sure.) Fee includes: Hands on instruction and layered “sandwich” for practice. Click here to register. Space is limited to 8 students.

We had a great time with our lavender paintings last night at The Studio. Plus Tricia brought blueberry pie for us to enjoy to complete our purple/blue color theme for the evening. 🙂 A great evening!!!

Look at the beautiful works these young artists did in just two hour? Aren’t they fabulous???!!! We love them….and I think Lincoln enjoyed the attention! Check out the remaining sessions of Art Camp here for your young artists. You don’t want them to miss it!

The Singer Featherweight is a model of domestic sewing machine made from 1933 to 1968. They are portable, with a flip up bed that allows them to fit into a neat little box. They are highly valued among quilter’s as they make an amazing stitch. They are also fairly quiet. Singer first made them in black. Then they added white and tan. Several years ago I acquired my first one at an auction. It is the black one made in 1946. Last year I added the white from 1964. And I search for quite some time to find a 1961 in tan. I recently got it. (They are shown in the photo here with and without their cases.) There is a tradition of naming Featherweights after women. I named the black one Nola Mae for my paternal grandmother, the white is Lucille for my maternal grandmother and the tan is Barbara Ann for my mom. These three women taught me to sew and to love crafting. I feel like I finally hit the TRIFECTA of Featherweights! I love these three little beauties.

Beautiful….spectacular….amazing BARN QUILTS!!!! These ladies did lovely work yesterday afternoon at The Studio while the crazy thunderstorm was raging outside. Barn Quilts look great outside on a barn, fence, shed or garage and inside on a wall. If you like quilts or Americana you will love these. Watch for another session soon and join in the fun.
