Monday I got a wonderful surprise. I came home to a package. I knew I had not ordered anything so I was really surprised when I opened it and found the 2013 Dog-a-Day calendar and letter saying that my Jeffie would be featured on February 20th. I thought back to the last time I had sent a photo in to them for submission in their calendar and it had to be at least 5 or 6 years! They must be really backlogged! Or maybe Jeffie’s story is just so special they didn’t want to miss it. 🙂 You can read more about my Jeffie here. We really miss him and this is a really special tribute to our wonderful time with him. This is what they chose to write: “To the Rescue: Basset/Lab mix Jefferson (or Jeffie, for short) was adopted at three months old from a Raleigh rescue group called Second Chance. Kelly Walker of Front Royal writes that since then Jeffie has chased a robber from their home, and learned how to predict the occurrence of his “mom’s” migraines so that she can take her medication in advance. Kelly can’t help but wonder: Who rescued whom?”

Here is what I love about my Tuesdays. Yesterday I taught my group at The Southerlands. This is Miss Gaylor with her strawberry. She loves painting strawberries and has painted at least a dozen. And every time she tells me about her daughter who has a strawberry birthmark. 🙂
And then after The Southerlands ladies I meet with Jacob, my youngest painter. He informed me that he is 6 and 3/4. He is the one who brought me the acorns for us to paint. And didn’t he do a great job on his?! Thanks Jacob.

Absolutely no time for painting the last few days. I added Mamie to the family two weeks ago and she has some kind of allergy with itching and scratching. We have been researching remedies and are trying the Apple Cider Vinegar solution as well as acidophiles. She’s on a good quality food. Hoping to find a remedy soon because the scratching is making me nuts. Imagine what it is doing to her! If you have a solution please comment. Thanks!

There are some days when I have obligations that keep me from painting. And sometimes those obligations take a little longer than I originally anticipated. Yesterday was one of those days. I am wrapping up the IRS filing for 501(c)3 non-profit status for the Strasburg Dog Owners Group (SDOG). This is the group in Strasburg who asked me to speak to their organizational meeting a few months ago about what we did here to form the Warren County Dog Park Association and answer questions about raising money to build a park.
The group is very enthusiastic and are getting a great deal of support in their community so I expect they will be able to get their park up and running by next year. My contribution to them, with my consultant hat on instead of my artist beret, is to prepare and file their non-profit status paperwork. And as with any IRS forms, they are no fun to prepare. But they are done so hopefully they’ll be off in the mail by the end of the week and Strasburg DOG will be a non-profit that can accept donations to build their park. Good luck guys!!!

For several months now I have been expecting a little girl. I told many friends about this and they always asked when. I told them I would know when I met her.
Here she is. This is Mamie Eisenhower Walker. She arrived last Monday morning. And while she has a few little habits we are working on she is doing just fine. She’s 4 years old.
She goes with us to the dog park and plays well with the other dogs.
Mamie has adapted to us all really well. The hardest part for me is to not call her Rosie. She looks just like Eleanor Roosevelt (Rosie), the little Cairn that we had several years ago. You can see her pics here. We will post more photos of Mamie in the next few days as she works her way into the hearts of Lincoln and Jed. 🙂
