Today would have been Truman’s 13th  birthday.  This is how he looked at 6 weeks old.  Adorable, huh?!

And this is Tru at about 6 months.

Truman was ALL Basset Hound – stubborn but smart.  Most people think Bassets are dumb.  Not true.  They are smart but they just do things on their own terms and Truman was the King at this!

He loved to lay on top of the sofa back for his naps so that he could keep an eye on what was happening in the front yard.

He loved little kids.  And they loved him.  Anywhere I took him people wanted to pet him, especially kids.  They are just drawn to basset for some reason.  Probably their funny looks and ears and maybe because they are close to the ground.

Truman was a real character and a very handsome boy.  We sure miss him.  Happy Birthday Truman!

Mamie enjoyed her afternoon at The Southerlands yesterday and the ladies enjoyed her. And she was a good girl waiting in a chair while we painted.

VOTE!

Two summers ago in art camp we created flags in multi-media.  The kids did a great job showing their love of country.

Now you show yours and go VOTE!  No matter for whom you vote, just vote.  It’s important.  Thanks.

We painted pie in art class yesterday.  Great job girls!

Miss Gaylor is one of my oldest students.  She paints with me each week at The Southerlands.  And she prefers painting strawberries if at all possible.  This past Tuesday she painted these.  She always tells me she can’t see what she is painting but I don’t believe her.  Didn’t she do great?  Read more about Miss Gaylor here.

I have been wanting to add shelves to my kitchen.  My kitchen is small with limited cabinet space so when I was up at Allen’s warehouse where I have some furniture stored and remembered that this piece was there, I was thrilled.  We moved it to the house on Sunday before the storm.  And it was a pain to move because it weighs a ton!  Yesterday I started painting, and painting, and painting.  Shelves like this are hard to paint…and take forever.  Plus I used an oil-based cabinet paint so it was extremely messy.  But it’s almost done.  Needs a little more paint in a couple of spots and I need to sand the top of the doors down to get them to close properly but  it’s almost done.  I like it.

Jed and Lincoln hunkered down in the bed to weather the storm yesterday and last night.  We had lots of wind and rain but luckily we didn’t lose power.

So Mamie hung out with me in the living room.  I watched tv while she watched her toy.  You never know when a “boy” might come along and try to take it while you are distracted with the weather.  🙂

We are grateful that we are safe here at home.  Praying for those who got “Sandy”  much worse than we did.

Snow? Really?

It’s not even Halloween yet and with Sandy headed our way we are hearing that we may have snow…and almost certainly power outages.

We are hunkered down here with plenty of supplies for the pups and me just waiting to see what happens.  At least I’ll get early snow reference photos this year.  🙂
