I met Oliver yesterday. He seemed to like his portrait. Sweet boy. His mama better check my suitcase when I leave because I may have to take him home with me!

Some days it’s about the snow. The last several days there has been snow on the ground and frigid cold weather. Yesterday the thermometer said 1 degree when I got up. This morning it’s 7! We often experience cold weather here in Virginia in the winter time but not cold like this. It makes it difficult to do anything outside. But I ventured out to take a few snow photos for reference. Here are a couple from downtown.
Stay safe and warm.

Over the past several years I have posted about finding art in unusual places. Look around. You see it everywhere…businesses, restaurants, homes, shops, museums, billboards, etc. But this week in my neighborhood we saw some special art. Almost everyday while walking my dogs, especially when we go to the dog park, I post on Facebook a photo of them “checking the Pee mail”. One of my neighbors granddaughter made an art sign that they posted by the fire hydrant in their front yard. It says, ” Public Restroom – All Dogs Welcome – Pee Mail Stop – Woof Woof”.
This is the best kind of art. You gotta love it!!!

One way that artists develop and improve their skills is by taking art workshops. There are some really good ones available all around the United States and one nearby is a summer artist’s colony at Nimrod Hall in Virginia that has been going on for almost 30 years. From their website, “Nimrod Hall is the sort of beautiful, rambling house that only time can build. Originally built in 1783, the main house consisted of little more than a two-story log cabin, and legend has that it was built as a stagecoach stop. Run for over one hundred years as a summer resort for people from all over the country, Nimrod Hall has a hotel register dating back to the turn of the century.”
I haven’t been to this one yet but have heard great things about it. I am hoping this is the year I make it. Here is the link to their site where you can learn more about their offerings this summer.

Yesterday afternoon we had another “Paint Your Pet’s Portrait” Party at the Blue Ridge Arts Council and the painters made wonderful renditions of their pets! Just take a look. And a couple of these folks have never painted before. Can you believe it???!!!
After class I got to play with a couple of the “subjects” and they posed with their portraits. Could they be any cuter? This is Ashton and Sophie.
When are you going to join us? The next “Paint Your Pet’s Portrait” Party is scheduled for February 15th at 3 p.m. Be sure to contact me and sign up early and the class fills fast. See you then.
