We painted cookies at The Studio yesterday at kid’s art class. The hardest part of the entire process was looking at the actual cookie laying beside the easels that we used to place our chips on the cookie. LOL! We couldn’t eat them until the end. Next time maybe we will have to paint a cookie with a bite out of it!
I love stories like this. Dr. Bendor Grosvenor who works with the BBC TV series “Britain’s Lost Masterpieces spotted “Innocenzo Francucci da Imola The Virgin” at a Scottish National Trust home that he was visiting for the series. It had been valued at $26 but now is thought to be worth $26 million!
That’s what I call undervalued art! Take a look at the article here. It’s interesting.

I’ve been cutting fabric, preparing for the Rag Quilt Workshop coming up this Sunday, October 9th and Saturday, October 22nd. There is one seat left in each one so if you want to come make a quilt with us just click the date above and it will take you to the link to register. These would make super gifts for the holidays so get busy now and you can have several done by Christmas. Nothing beats a handmade gift!
Of course, to be sure I remembered everything I needed to share with the students I decided to make another one from some cute dog motif fabric that I had on hand. 🙂 Don’t you love it?!

Tulip Stitch
Now that the weather is cooling off it’s time to think about picking up some needlework. I love to crochet when it gets cold outside. So I have been working on some ideas for crochet classes for The Studio.

Beginner’s Class Infinity Scarf
We will have a Beginning Crochet Class on October 25th. You can get more information on that here. The great thing about this class is that you will not only learn to crochet but you will actually make a beautiful infinity scarf. Just ask some of the ladies who took this class last year. I created a few “monsters” as they made dozens of scarves that all of their friends are now enjoying.
We will announce a few other crochet classes soon – one that will include how to work more advanced stitches and joining them like this Tulip Stitch afghan. Watch for it.

Marie loves to paint. She told me that yesterday. She said it was her favorite thing. She’s too young for my regular kid’s class so she is taking private lessons now every few weeks. After the first one she told me that purple was her favorite color so we painted the purple hydrangea at this lesson. Then she told me for the next time she wants to paint her dog. 🙂

Amazingly two Van Gogh paintings that have been missing since 2002 have been recovered. They are valued at $30 million. I’m sure the Van Gogh Museum never thought they would be found. Read about it here. And you can see the press release that the Van Gogh Museum released here. Always good news to have beautiful art by amazing painters recovered.

Our lesson yesterday at the Kid’s Painting Class was on blending colors. We painted a lovely still life with Pear and Cherry and they did a great job blending the colors on the fruit. Keep up the good work kids!

Caravaggio was an Italian painter in Rome, Naples, and Sicily in the late 1500’s and early 1600’s. His work used dramatic lighting as well as the observation of the human state and helped to form the Baroque painting movement. He was born on this day in 1571 (some accounts say his birthday is tomorrow). Read more about him here.

Everyone, tourist and residents alike, has enjoyed the beautiful hanging baskets on Main Street in Front Royal this year. Join us to create this rendition of the lovely hanging baskets that have graced Main Street this summer. They really have looked so beautiful and now we will capture them on canvas to enjoy forever. This is a follow-along party so anyone can do it even if you have never painted before. Why not bring a friend and your favorite beverage and give it a try. We’ll paint this one on Tuesday, October 11th at 6 pm.
Fee: $39 includes all paint supplies – Click here to register.
