I worked on my 2023 Temperature Quilt this morning. I have been trying to keep up with it each month. I find if I fall behind it’s hard to get going again. I crocheted a temperature blanket a few years ago. (Read about it here.) After seeing a few Temperature Quilts at a show lasat year I decided to give it a try. The Black and White blocks indicate the beginning of each month. The block are half square triangles with the upper right being the high temp of the day and the bottom left the low temp. The key is on the white paper laying on the upper right side in the photo. There is close up photo of the key below. I’ll post another photo at the end of the year when it’s all done. 🙂

Look at the terrific job these painters did on their pet portraits yesterday!!! They all turned out terrific. Good job everyone! The next pet portrait session is October 29th at 1 pm. Click here to register. There are 5 seats remaining.

We had a delightful group of quilters that went on our quick trip to the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza at Oaks PA on Thursday and Friday. We attended the show on Thursday and saw hundreds of amazing quilts and got some great ideas. We shopped the vendors at the show and then had a great dinner and turned in early Thursday night so we could hit the road early Friday morning for our F.A.R.T. (Fabric Acquisition Road Trip). And acquire fabric we did!!!! We hit 5 of our favorite shops…Zinck’s, Good’s Store, Old Country Store Quilts, Log Cabin Quilts and Burkholders. What a whirlwind! We flew into each shop and all 8 of us found some treasures. (And let me say that these ladies were an amazing group with which to travel. So compatible and up for all adventures!) We loaded up the van and headed home. We were all good and tired when we got home last night but also excited and full of ideas of new projects. I can’t wait to see how all that amazing fabric turns out. If you love sewing and/or quilting be sure to watch for our new Open Studio time just for you!

Just completed the blocks for Red Poppy, Yellow Poppy. Now to get it together and put the border on it and off to the long-armer it will go. But that will have to wait because we are off to the Quilt Show in Pennsylvania today to get more great ideas and supplies. We’ll share more about that in the next few days.

We have so many great events coming up at The Studio. Click here for descriptions of each event and to register We have something for everyone. Much awaited Kid’s painting and sewing classes are here! Don’t miss out. Register now.

A few weeks ago I introduced a new series of quilts that I had designed, all based on NOT including any half-square triangles. My good friend, Wilma, hates making half-square triangles so I designed this group of quilts with her in mind and decided to call it The Wilma Series. (See and read about that here.) I just finished one of the designs this afternoon. I love the colors and the modern feel to this quilt. It was put together using the Quilt As You Go method. It went really fast!

Here’s a little sample skirt we just worked up for the upcoming Kid’s Sewing Class on Saturday, September 23rd for ages 10+. Click here to get more info and to register.

We had a great time with a family paint party yesterday. They are here for a family reunion and while some played a golf tournament these creative ones came to paint. Nice work!!! Remember that you can book a private party at The Studio by contacting Kelly at kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com .

Our Thursday Night Quilters completed their Sampler Quilts last night. Samantha, Shannon and Jillian are shown here with their amazing works. We missed Becky and Paula last night but look forward to seeing their finished quilts too. This was such a fun group of ladies…always eager to learn more and always ready to laugh. We had a great year quilting together! If you would like to learn more about quilting and sewing watch for our upcoming classes. We have a new garment series beginning soon.

I completed this “Fancy Diamond” quilt top last month and was pleased with how it turned out. I took it to my longarm quilter, Wendy Hughes. When I got it back I was thrilled. Just look at the beautiful stitching she did on the blocks and neutral space. Wendy made a quilt that I was pleased with into a quilt that I am so delighted to have! Don’t you agree that it’s amazing????!!!!! Thanks Wendy…beautiful work!
