Diamond Shoal, 1905, Winslow Homer (1836-1910)

An email from a cousin got me to looking at what is happening in Philadelphia in early April.  I was delighted when I ran across an exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art featuring American Watercolors.  Take a look here.  Looks like a field trip is needed.

I always say that there is art all around us.  Every where you go you can see art if you are just looking for it.  While in Atlanta this past holiday season we visited the “World of Coca-Cola”, a museum that follows the history of Coke along with the advertising associated with it.  There was MUCH art to see there.

Most of it was Pop Art…a movement from the 1950’s and 60’s that was led by artists like Andy Warhol that was a nod to pop culture and was inspired by advertising.

logoOne of the most fun things I have ever done with painters is going to “Art of the Carolinas” in Raleigh.  It’s a  huge trade show and they have art workshops for 4 days from which to choose.

For several years my art friends from Kentucky met me over in Raleigh and we had a reunion as well as a great time painting.  That was wonderful.   This year several of us are going from my classes and it’s not too late to go.  Click this link to learn more and see the available classes.  It is well worth the trip….and Raleigh isn’t that far.  I’ve already signed up for two classes and another one has caught my eye!  🙂

I was invited out to Lake Frederick to help these ladies paint their pet’s portraits this week.  They did a fabulous job!  I loved working with you all and hope we paint together again real soon.  And I enjoyed working in the new Art Studio at your clubhouse.  It’s beautifully done.  Here are some photos.   I love the clever use of brushes for cabinet door pulls.  Nice!

BG1BG2BG3BG4BG5BG6BG7Yesterday I drove over to Belle Grove in Middletown to deliver some art for an upcoming event called “Art in the Barn” that they are having there. I happened upon a reenactment weekend.  It was quite a sight to see….impressive with the huge mansion on one side of the field and a big red barn on the other with tons of tents in between.  You have to wonder is that what it looked like all those years ago?!     Wow!

Fielding Archer Sunday morning Demo in process

Just returned from Nimrod Hall and a weekend of study with Fielding Archer, an amazing artist from Richmond who shared his unique style with the group painting there.  We learned so much by observing Fielding’s demonstrations and asking questions about how he works.

It was a terrific weekend of art at a beautiful place.  Can’t wait for next time.

Check out more about Fielding Archer here.

I’m back at Nimrod for a weekend of art.  This place is magical in that there are so many beautiful sights to paint plus the minute you drive through the gate your troubles and worries melt away.  Everyone is here to learn and create.  The atmosphere is terrific.  Today we’ll be working with Fielding Archer.  Can’t wait to try something new.   Enjoy these scenes from around Nimrod and I’ll share more tomorrow….image
