Have you been wanting to learn to sew or quilt?  We are continuing our offerings at The Studio so you can develop some “indoor hobbies” before the cooler weather sets in.

Rag quilts are the latest trend in quilting. They are a quick, fun and different type of quilt offering a refreshing break from traditional quilting!

These are perfect for anyone who wants to learn to sew because all you need to do is sew a straight line.  (If you have a machine that you have been wanting to learn to use you can bring it and learn on your very own.)

And even if you have been sewing for years, this project will be a fun break and an opportunity to shake up your regular sewing.  We are going to have a workshop on Sunday, October 9th at 1 pm.  And here is the best part….Kelly is downsizing her fabric stash so all the fabric is included in the workshop fee PLUS the fabric kit will be cut and all ready to sew. There is a nice variety of fabric kits from which to choose or you can bring your own pre-cut fabric. (If you decide to bring your own you will be given instruction when you register on how to prepare the fabric.  But the fee is the same so why not choose a pre-cut kit?)

You will learn everything to make a rag quilt without having to take an hour or so to cut everything.  That means all you will have to do is sew and clip so you will have a lap throw quilt completed in about 3 hours!  Great, huh??!!

Don’t you want to join us?  Space is extremely limited. Only 6 students for this workshop.

FEE:  $79   Click here to register

A few weeks ago at a private Paint Party I saw my friend, Kathleen, that I haven’t seen in several years and as we talked about “what have you been up to” she shared with me that she had been doing more quilting with a group of friends.  Then she showed me this lovely quilt that they made.  The quilt is AMAZING.  But even more amazing than that is the fact that each quilter was given one section (a block) to create and all they were told was to do it in Fall colors.  Can you believe how spectacular it  turned out.  I can’t even imagine that they didn’t shop together for fabric or coordinate to make it this wonderful.  Great work ladies.  This is certainly a piece of art!!!  And thanks Kathleen for sharing this information with me so I could share it with everyone.

jacket dog leashI just finished converting a sweatshirt into this cute jacket.  It’s really pretty easy to do.  And we will be offering a class soon at The Studio for anyone who wants to make their own.  It’s fun to create something that represents your personality.  Of course, mine had to have a dog!

I think I will change the sleeve cuffs on this one.  They are a little long so maybe I will change them up.  Watch for an updated photo and info on the class coming up soon.  (Click here to see another converted jacket from earlier this year.)

I got to play a little with free form applique this week.  I have been reading about it lately and wanted to give it a try so I found this plain sweater and decided to embellish it with a little birdie.  I like it.  Now I want to try more.

Completed Jacket

Completed Jacket

For the last week or so on Facebook my friends have seen me post about this jacket that my friend Sandra and I have been making in our quest to challenge ourselves to sew some things a little more difficult.  This project has involved a lot of cussing!

First of all, it is a rag jacket so you sew the seams in the opposite way you normally would so it keeps your head messed up thinking about whether you sewed the seam right because it looks so wrong.  Then the directions on this particular pattern were not written in the most clear way that it could have been.

And had I not been working on it with Sandra I probably would have thrown it out several times!!!  But we didn’t and now…now that it is finally finished we both are very happy with how they turned out.

But I will NOT be doing this one again anytime soon.  It will take me some time to get over it!  LOL

The Stash

Fabric Stash

Fabric Stash

Yarn Stash

Yarn Stash

As I teach more classes in crocheting and sewing I have come to realize that I have become one of those people.  You know, the ones who keep a stash of yarn and/or fabric.  My Granny was one.  She always had a big stack of fabric so that whenever she wanted to “run up a frock” she would have just what she needed.

When you love yarn and fabric it’s hard not to buy it when you find a good deal.  We always have an idea of what we might do with it but it is just hard to get to every project we want to get done.   I have LOTS of yarn and fabric and I do have ideas for ALL of it.  And one day, maybe when we add 3 or 4 more hours to each day, I will get to it all.  I know Granny would understand and probably be proud of the stash I have.

Soon I will share some “Stash Buster” ideas for all that good stuff you have lying around.
