On my way to work a few weeks ago I stopped in at a local auction house as I had seen that they had a few old sewing machines listed.  I have been on the look out for a Singer Featherweight ever since I saw the one that my friend Sandra brought to a sewing class last year.  I had read about them but never actually been in the presence of one.  I was in love and knew I had to find one for myself.  As I walked up to the table at the auction house that held the two sewing machines I held my breath hoping this would be the day.  Imagine my joy when I realized they were both Featherweights.  The problem was I couldn’t stay for the auction.  I had 15 people arriving for a paint party within the hour so I left a sealed bid on both machines…one machine was in good shape and the other not so much.  I held my breath waiting to hear if I got one.  When I finished work that day I still hadn’t heard anything so I went back by the auction and it was still going one.  But low and behold, I had gotten one of the machines…the one in the better shape.  I couldn’t wait to call my friends who work on antique machines and have them pick it up and check it out for me.  They did and were just as excited as I was that I had found it.  20170619_064645Now I have it back all oiled and ready to sew.  Now I can’t decide what to make first!  It’s almost too beautiful to use but I know it’s too  lovely not to use.  These little workhorses are much sought after and very collectible. Mine is from 1946….they each have serial numbers so we know when it was made. Read more about them here.  I LOVE IT!

Patriotic Table Runner Part II

20170523_053913We had the second part of our Quilted Table Runner class last night.  They are looking great!  Everyone promised to send a photo of their finished products. (They took them home for binding.)  I can’t wait to see them but you can get a good idea here with Amber’s.  It looks beautiful and we all had a really good time working together.  Great work ladies!

Table Runner 5After the last few Rag Quilt classes we were asked to have a “regular” quilting class.  Of course, traditional quilting is more detailed than the simplicity of Rag Quilts but they are great fun to make and there are so many variations.  This pieced quilted table runner is a good example of a beginning quilting project…and just in time for Memorial Day and the 4th of July!  Click here to register for this two-part class on Monday, May 15th and 22nd.

Pup Walk Applique

Yesterday I got to finish the “Pup Walk” applique and quilt piece that was started a few years ago.  I love the way raw edge applique looks and wanted to give it a try along with free motion quilting.  Plus I have a different machine with decorative stitches that I wanted to test.  I let other things get in the way of sewing and needlework so I was glad to finally get back to it.  There are several more projects that I’d like to try using this technique.  Lots of possibilities.

Coin Quilts

20170417_065713After our last couple of Rag Quilt Classes we were asked by some participants to have some other quilting classes….simple ones for beginners.  So one that we are working on preparing a couple of samples to get people started in piece quilting.  One that is going to be scheduled soon is the Coin Quilt.  There are many varieties of way to put these together.  It’s simple but helps to learn quilting basics.  Watch for it on the calendar soon.
