Quilt Month Coming Soon

As we are coming up on National Quilt Month let’s look at the cost to make a quilt. Many people are surprised at how much goes into making one. The chart above gives you a look at the average cost to make a full size quilt. This is just the material costs and doesn’t take into account the time it takes to select the fabric, cut the patches, sew the pieces together, join the design, quilt the layers and bind the quilt. Many, many hours of labor go into a quilt. That is why the costs of a quilt can seem high. But when you consider all that goes into making a beautiful quilt the price is worth it! Next week, during National Quilt Month, we will be holding a sample quilt sale….selling the samples we have made for classes at The Studio. The quilts we will offer will go for basically the cost of the material. That will be a great deal so be sure to watch for the sale to start soon.

Always on the lookout for a simple design that will work for a beginning sewing and/or quilting class I recently saw a quilt similar to this and thought it would be a good one to work up for a class. I like the simplicity and modern look of it. Watch for a beginning quilt class soon.

During the Stitching Retreat we took a morning off to make a little road trip to Harrisonburg to see the Virginia Quilt Museum. It was AWESOME! There was an amazing exhibit of antique star quilts. I LOVE a star quilt so I really enjoyed seeing these. The photos don’t do it justice but you get the idea. If you get a chance be sure to go to Harrisonburg and check it out. Here’s the website so you can see all the things they have on display.

Our happy crew getting to see the Virginia Quilt Museum.

I’ve missed several days of posting here as I was out of town for our sixth Stitch & Bitch Retreat out at Shenandoah River State Park. We always have such a great time. We sew, crochet, knit, eat, drink, share ideas and play games. The games are a highlight. We play “Strip” Poker using jelly roll strips and the winner gets a ton of them and has to make something and then share. Sometimes it’s scary to win. LOL! We played Left, Right, Center and the winner got to choose from a ton of great sewing/quilting prizes. And you can tell by the photos that there was a lot of joking and laughing going on.

There is just something about the Wonky Windmill pattern that I love. And as usual I pulled a bunch of different fabrics from the scrap box. (I have got to get rid of some of this scrap fabric!) I am happy with the way it turned out and it was really fun to make.
