Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month – the annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same.  20170912_120251 (002)We know many people who have survived this terrible cancer and several friends wanted to get together to create a piece of art to help with awareness.  Their awareness ribbons turned out AWESOME!  Great work ladies.  You all ROCK! And thanks for rocking The Studio yesterday.  That is the most fun we have had at Open Studio in a long, long time.

Artist Retreat at Capon Springs

We arrived yesterday afternoon at Capon Springs Resort and Farm for an artist Retreat that will run through Thursday.  Last night we had a Paint Party that was open to everyone…even if you had never painted before.  And I think we may have some converts!

I love it when people paint for the first time and find that they can really do it!  What fun…and we had some really nice paintings come out of this group.  Today we are setting up for our first session which is and Introduction to Painting.  While we have some people coming to the Retreat that have painted for years, we have many who are new to art.  There will be something for everyone.

And look…I’m the “Artist in Residence”.  Cool, huh??!!    It’s not too late.  If you are close enough and are interested you can join us.  Just contact Capon Springs for room availability.  It’s just $99 per night and includes 3 meals and all art instruction.  Bring your own supplies or use ours for a small supply fee.  You won’t regret it.  This place is AWESOME!  Did I mention the spa and mineral springs??!!

Starry Night Famous Painters

Last night we painted Van Gogh’s Starry Night at our Famous Painters Party.  This is one of the most recognizable paintings.  Everyone knows it!  And many of you wanted to paint it.  Look at the terrific creations these painters made last night.  Wow!

Really Large Landscapes

Large LandscapesWe painted really large canvases at The Studio yesterday.  We’d had a request to do a landscape in a large format after we did the large abstracts.  So this is the one we did.  It’s a view of the mountain looking south from Belle Grove.  What a great job everyone did on it.  I think they would all agree that painting large is FUN!

Sanders Ranch Painters

The gang from Sanders Ranch (Battlefield Equestrian Center in Manassas) returned to The  Studio yesterday to paint more of their wonderful pets.  Awesome!  I have such a good time with them…painting, laughing, eating and drinking.  This is a fun group!

Painting the House!

Yesterday we had our inaugural session of “Paint Your House” Paint  Party.  We had so much fun painting and some reminiscing about the homes we grew up in.  Everyone did fantastic work.  These are a little more detailed, as you can imagine, than some of the images we do at Paint Parties but they are very special.  Julie and Susan finished theirs and were very pleased.

Kim and Lauren plan to work on them again this week at art class and Open Studio as they didn’t want to rush.  Beautiful!  Thanks ladies for a fun session and thanks Lauren for the great idea!  We will be planning another one in October so watch for the date if you missed this one.

Rappahannock Party

We had a fun Paint Party at Rappahannock Cellars last night painting the wonderful old barn scene that is there.  It was fun watching everyone make the design their own.  Nice work everyone!
