I’m back at Nimrod for a weekend of art.  This place is magical in that there are so many beautiful sights to paint plus the minute you drive through the gate your troubles and worries melt away.  Everyone is here to learn and create.  The atmosphere is terrific.  Today we’ll be working with Fielding Archer.  Can’t wait to try something new.   Enjoy these scenes from around Nimrod and I’ll share more tomorrow….image

Lauren with 1st Plein Air PaintingOur Art Retreat to Whippoorwill Farm has ended and was a great success.  Ten of us went to practice our plein air skills.  Some were painting outdoors for the first time…and they did great.  Take a  look at Lauren with her first plein air painting.  She did a fabulous job.  She completed about 90 percent of it on location and then finished it up at class last night.  Beautiful work Lauren.  So glad you were able to go and experience plein air painting.

Summer Tree The final tree in our Four Seasons series is the Summer Tree.  We will be painting it at the Paint Party on Saturday, June 4th at 2 pm.  Join us for this beautiful painting.

You don’t have to paint all four….this would be a lovely work without any of the others.  But if you have been painting the series and have missed a tree we will be having a make-up session soon. Click here to register.

imageI do love to go places where there are lots of things to see and do and especially when there are great scenes for photos that may serve as reference  photos for paintings.  Yesterday I spent at day at Chincoteague and Assateague Islands taking LOTS of photos.  There was a really neat “Artful Flea” event where many local artist sold their wares at the Farmer’s Market.  I saw many nice pieces of art and crafts.  My favorite was the decorated Flamingos that were for sale to benefit a local scholarship fund.  Really cute and fun.  Then off to the lighthouse for photos and a drive around Assateague to take wildlife photos.

Last Wednesday the kids tried their hand at palette knife painting.  It was fun and they all did a great job.  It’s exciting to experiment with something new and different.  I decided to complete the demo painting I did with the kids so that we can offer an adult version of the palette knife class.  A paint party coming soon….
