A few weeks ago I posted about taking photos of the wonderful flowers we are seeing now both in nature and arrangements we have during this time of the year.  (Read that here.)  I got back to painting some of those recently.  I will have to wrap this one up soon as it is about 80% complete.

There is so much subject matter to paint at this time of the year.  Thank goodness we have a camera at hand at all times!

When you teach art, especially if you have Paint Parties, you tend to paint the same subject matter more than once.

I often paint a sample that I can use when promoting the class/party.  And then I paint it again while teaching in the class/party.  And if it is a popular piece there may be more than one group that paints it.

That is the case with these poppies.  So far I have painted it at least 6 times.  Here are four versions with the size listed below.  This one has been particularly popular because it’s pretty and it is easy for people to be successful when painting it, even if they are painting for the first time!

Over the past week there have been some beautiful flowers blooming.  This is the perfect time to take photos of different arrangements on different backgrounds and at different angles to build your reference library.  There may not be time to paint them all right now but you can have the photos for later when there is time to paint.  Take lots of photos during this time of the year to increase your selection of subject matter.  It’s the perfect time.

Almost every morning I walk my dogs along a path at the Shenandoah River down to the Dog Park.  They love it and so do I.  It’s a beautiful place in any season but it’s particularly lovely right now as the Bluebells are blooming.  I posted several photos on my Facebook page earlier this week (check that out here) and everyone thought it would make a great painting.  So at Kid’s Painting class yesterday they painted it.  Great job everyone!

Paint for Life Party

Paint for Life Party

Yesterday evening we had a Paint Party to benefit a Relay for Life team.  Thanks Lynn for the great idea and thanks to everyone who came out to paint.

We did a lovely painting of Hydrangeas Along the Fence.  And everyone did a fabulous job!  Good work.

I originally painted this scene as a graduation present for my niece, Lexie.  You can see that here.

Jean's FlowersThis photo was recently posted on Facebook by a dear friend in Nashville who has this little painting that I did when I first started painting.  I’m not sure if there is a date on it but I would guess it was in the early 1990’s.  I am delighted that Jean is still enjoying this little piece of art.  Thanks for sharing it with me Jean.  It made my day to see it.
