I did this little sketch of Walker, my niece Lex’s old Chocolate Lab that died this past year.  He was a wonderful old boy and she grew up with him.

I want to do a little portrait of him and will hopefully get that done soon for her.  He was wonderful.

Sleeping with Pig

Mamie sleeping on MY pillow-her favorite nap spot

Today we celebrate Thanksgiving – the most honest of all holidays.  We give thanks for the family and friends in our lives and for the bounty we enjoy.  Today I am giving a special prayer of thanks for our wonderful Mamie.  We lost her yesterday to liver failure.

We only had the pleasure of Mamie, a feisty little Cairn terrier, for a little more than 2 years.  She came to us from previous homes who could not keep her.  What a loss for them because she was an amazing little dog.

She loved pigs.  We are not sure how she could tell the difference but she knew her pigs…..and she had many!  And she loved to play fetch more than anything.  We would throw her pig, a ball, a stuff toy, and most recently her squeaky airplanes (a gift from neighbors when she first got sick in July) down the hallway in the house for her to chase.  And chase she would hundreds of times if you would throw it that many.  She LOVED it!

And she loved playing with her brothers Jed and Lincoln….especially Lincoln who was patient when we first got Mamie to help her overcome her toy aggression.  It took several months but she finally understood that he just wanted to play. (You can see more about Mamie in this anniversary post.)

Mamie was our sweet little girl.  She was devilish and clever.  She was adorable and manipulating.  She knew how to work the room.  And many of our Facebook friends loved Mamie as well.  We post photos on Facebook almost each day of our visits to the dog park and many people got to know her that way.

So today we send up a prayer of Thanksgiving for the time we had with our little girl, Mamie.  We loved her so much and are so happy that she is feeling no more pain.  We will miss her forever.

20141118_055635 On my quest to embroidery everything I see (LOL) I found these cute aprons recently at Target and of course, I thought the apron bib was the perfect place for a little embellishment.

Here is one with a Mamie look-a-like.

20141117_065843I love Facebook because I am always seeing cute sayings that people post.  I saw this one a few weeks ago and thought it would make a cute embroidery pattern if I added a little dog to it.  So here it is on a pillow.

I love this one!

PP Pups We had a really great group painting Pet Portraits at the Paint Party yesterday.  I can only share one photo with you as several were painting the portraits for Christmas presents so I can not share theirs.  I know that the recipients will love them.

Join us for the next Paint Party on Saturday, December 6, at 2 pm.  We will be painting a winter scene.

Paper Painting - Walking the Dog

Paper Painting – Walking the Dog

I experimented more with painting with paper this week.  It’s relaxing to rip paper and fit it onto the form that I have pre-painted.  I like searching through the paper to find the ones that have the colors that I think will work for the shades of color I need.

It’s an interesting departure from painting.

Walking the Dog”, 9″x12″, paper over acrylic paint on canvas board.

Talking BeagleA few days ago I posted “The Talking Beagle”, an acrylic painting that I started during art class last week.  (See that post here.)  I finished it this week.

I just love the way beagles “talk” and when I saw the photo of this little guy baying I knew it would make a great painting.

“The Talking Beagle”, acrylic on canvas, 16″ x 20″, available for $225.

20140926_100913Last week at my evening adult classes I started a painting.  Sometimes when I feel that everyone is on track with their paintings I will paint during the adult art classes.  On Wednesday and Thursday I worked on “The Talking Beagle”.  It is an acrylic painting on 16″x20″ canvas.   I have always loved the way Beagles “talk”-they throw their heads back and just let go!  I love it.

This painting is about 75% finished.  I still need to get in some details and the finish the face.  I am hoping to get to that during this weeks class.
