hanging-basketsEveryone, tourist and residents alike, has enjoyed the beautiful hanging baskets on Main Street in Front Royal this year.  Join us to create this rendition of the lovely hanging baskets that have graced Main Street this summer.  They really have looked so beautiful and now we will capture them on canvas to enjoy forever.  This is a follow-along party so anyone can do it even if you have never painted before.  Why  not bring a friend and your favorite beverage and give it a try.  We’ll paint this one on Tuesday, October 11th at 6 pm.

Fee: $39  includes all paint supplies  –   Click here to register.

20160920_215212.jpgOnce again the Temperature Blanket is up-to-date.  It’s getting really long.  I may make a change in the design to widen it out over the last three months.  I do like how it’s coming along though.

View from Oxbow Farm

I attended one  of the most interesting events last night at Oxbow Farm in Warren County.  It was a fundraising event for The Blue Ridge Wildlife Center.  It was fascinating to see some of the animals that they have had come to their center and that have been rehabilitated that now serve as educational ambassadors.  These animals, for some reason or other, cannot be released back into the wild so they live at the center and help educate the public about the purpose of the center.

There was Snow, the Arctic Fox, that was rescued from a house in Prince William County.  And Apple Blossom, the opossum, whose mother was killed by a car with the babies still attached to her.  Such sad stories…  But BRWC is doing wonderful work to rehabilitate these animals and get them back to their  natural habitat.

A Rapture Owl was released.  It was a beautiful animal but definitely wild…not like the other animals we met that are being used for education.  This one was found on a construction site and fit into the palm of the hand of the woman who rescued and helped rehab it.  And last night she released it.  You can shttps://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fkellywalkerstudios%2Fvideos%2F10207384416743745%2F&show_text=0&width=400“>ee a video here

oxbow-farm-fieldI am excited to be going to a fundraiser this weekend for the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center.  (Check out there good work here.)  And I was even more thrilled to be invited to donate a “Plein Air Private Session” as an auction item.

The event is going to be held at Oxbow Farm where I have painted in Plein Air many times thanks to the kind owner.  This painting is one I did several years ago while out for a day of painting sunflowers.  After painting the sunflowers (See it here) I turned around and this was the view.  I loved it too.  Actually there are no bad views there.  It’s beautiful.

One of the hardest things for most creative people is coming up with and developing ideas for their art or writing.  For others it is condensing the many ideas they have into a manageable series.

Much has been written about how to develop a process to help with this problem.  What I find that works for me is Art Journaling.  For me it involves writing, sketching, and listing among other things.

If you are creative and want to learn more about managing it we have a workshop that is just for you.  Come learn and share and get started managing your creativity.  For more information and to register click here.

20160913_080118.jpgHere is the “Painting with Paper” Sunflower that I made at the class at The Studio this past Sunday.  This type of art is so much fun…tearing paper and arranging it into something lovely.  Denise has agreed to come back on Sunday, October 16th to teach another one so mark your calendars now!

Sandra and I worked on the second step of our project today.  We were hoping to make this a fall workshop at The Studio but it is taking so long for each step to dry that it may not be feasible to do it.  We haven’t totally given up on the idea.  We are looking for other options.  But in the meantime I’ll keep you posted on how our project turns out.
