View from Oxbow Farm
I attended one of the most interesting events last night at Oxbow Farm in Warren County. It was a fundraising event for The Blue Ridge Wildlife Center. It was fascinating to see some of the animals that they have had come to their center and that have been rehabilitated that now serve as educational ambassadors. These animals, for some reason or other, cannot be released back into the wild so they live at the center and help educate the public about the purpose of the center.
There was Snow, the Arctic Fox, that was rescued from a house in Prince William County. And Apple Blossom, the opossum, whose mother was killed by a car with the babies still attached to her. Such sad stories… But BRWC is doing wonderful work to rehabilitate these animals and get them back to their natural habitat.
A Rapture Owl was released. It was a beautiful animal but definitely wild…not like the other animals we met that are being used for education. This one was found on a construction site and fit into the palm of the hand of the woman who rescued and helped rehab it. And last night she released it.
