The kids painted a cold painting yesterday. It’s similar to one we are going to do with adults soon at a private party. Nice work kids!

Ideas for Private Parties
Posted in daily painter, Landscape, Paint Party, tagged Night Landscape, Winter Landscape on November 7, 2017| Leave a Comment »
I worked on a sample painting for an upcoming private party. They asked for a simple winter night scene. We are thinking we may add either a small cardinal or lights in the bare tree. Did you know you can set up a private paint party for you and your friends? It’s a great way to celebrate the holiday or have a party. No need to worry about planning… you can just choose a date and the painting and we’ll provide a link for you to invite everyone. Then you all come and create a marvelous work of art while enjoying some great times and laughs with friends. Contact kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com to arrange your party today!
Flamingo Christmas?

Yesterday at Kid’s Class we painted Flamingos. The kids did a great job on theirs. At the end of class I showed them how they can “doll” their paintings up with extras…like a wreath for Christmas on this Flamingo. How about a Christmas Bird? Is this one you’d like to paint?

Last Day at Capon Springs

Our final day of instructing at Capon Springs saw us working with Palette Knives. Everyone was game to give it a try and we had fun creating some wonderful art. Then we finally got a little time to relax and enjoyed a soak in the mineral waters at the spa. What a treat….especially with a little Epson Salt thrown in to help the old arthritic knees. We spent time at the Fish Pond and wandering around taking photos of this magical place and ended with the traditional weekly Bingo game. (I didn’t win.)
What a fun day! If you get an opportunity (or you should make one) to come out to Capon Springs Resort and Farm you should jump at the chance. It is an amazing place that is such a gift to enjoy. Plan to come join us for the Spring Artist Retreat on May 20-24, 2018. It will be a good excuse for you to get away and to discover all that Capon Springs has to offer!

Yesterday at the Capon Springs Artists Retreat we created Paper Paintings. And it was thrilling that so many came to give it a try….26 paper painters to be exact! Terrific!!! What fun we had creating wonderful animals, flowers and scenes using only torn and cut paper.
Then last night everyone displayed the work they have done since Sunday and we had live music for our “Art Show”.
It was terrific. If you didn’t come to the Artists Retreat you should KICK YOURSELF! It is so much fun. The good news is we have dates for the one in the spring….May 20-24, 2018. Mark your calendar NOW!

We arrived yesterday afternoon at Capon Springs Resort and Farm for an artist Retreat that will run through Thursday. Last night we had a Paint Party that was open to everyone…even if you had never painted before. And I think we may have some converts!
I love it when people paint for the first time and find that they can really do it! What fun…and we had some really nice paintings come out of this group. Today we are setting up for our first session which is and Introduction to Painting. While we have some people coming to the Retreat that have painted for years, we have many who are new to art. There will be something for everyone.
And look…I’m the “Artist in Residence”. Cool, huh??!! It’s not too late. If you are close enough and are interested you can join us. Just contact Capon Springs for room availability. It’s just $99 per night and includes 3 meals and all art instruction. Bring your own supplies or use ours for a small supply fee. You won’t regret it. This place is AWESOME! Did I mention the spa and mineral springs??!!
No-Sew Basket

Last night at The Studio we learned how to make No-Sew Baskets. These are fun and easy and the process can be used to make baskets or bowls but also can be used to make hot pads, placemats and even rugs. Great work. Three of our students actually completed their bowl while several others are finishing up at home. We made them promise to send a photo of the completed work.

Last night in our Adult Art Class we all decided to give Finger Painting a try. What fun it turned out to be….and messy! Everyone was game to paint fast and loose. And boy did they turn out great. We painted a little Koi pond with Lily Pads. Sometimes it’s fun to do something a little different. Great work everyone! If you want to get creative come join us for art class on Wednesdays at 10:30 or 5:30 or Thursdays at 2 pm. See more info here.
Really Large Landscapes

We painted really large canvases at The Studio yesterday. We’d had a request to do a landscape in a large format after we did the large abstracts. So this is the one we did. It’s a view of the mountain looking south from Belle Grove. What a great job everyone did on it. I think they would all agree that painting large is FUN!
