After the Wednesday morning Art Class yesterday I drove 7 hours to Perrysburg OH for an EQ8 Workshop.   This is the quilt design software that I have been using for about a year and a half and I was finally able to get to a class.  I was hoping that after using it that long I wouldn’t be disappointed and I was not!  I already learned so much today that will help me and I can’t wait for the next two days of class.  Plus I am meeting so many other quilters from all over the United States and sharing stories and ideas. This is such a great treat for me!

The 2023 Temperature Quilt just got back from the long-arm quilter. It’s all done. It shows the high and low temperatures for each day. You can read more about it here. There are 795 pieces in the quilt top. This is the first Temperature Quilt that I have made. I have crocheted a Temperature blanket before and you can see that here. Will there be another Temperature Quilt this year? Well, I’m not sure yet. I’m still searching for just the right design. All I can say is maybe. I really enjoyed making it so there probably will be. another one in the future. Stay tuned.

Yesterday I finally got to spend some time sewing. I have had a terrible cold since the first of the year and haven’t had energy to do anything. You know I am really sick if I haven’t been at my machine! But yesterday was the perfect sew day…snow on the ground, warm inside and Lincoln at my feet. So I got out my Temperature Quilt and finished up the December blocks and put it all together. When Allen stopped by I got him to hold it up for me to get a photo of it. It’s really large! Now it will go off to the long-arm quilter. I can’t wait to get it back. I love a scrappy quilt and while this one is planned with colors it still appears scrappy. It had a total of 795 patches…two for each day…representing the high and low temperature for the day and a block with 5 patches that divides the months. You can see the color chart on the right that I used. I use the National Weather Service website for data on the high and low temperatures for our town. You can find it here. This was an easy design to make for a temperature quilt. Maybe next year I’ll try a different one. When it comes back from the long-arm quilter I’ll share it with you all.

Family Paint Along

Of course, this is my favorite family paint along! Kip asked me a few weeks ago if we could do a family Paint Party and I said OF COURSE! I loved having them all at The Studio to paint. So for those who maybe don’t know from right to left, my three granddaughters, Abby, Taylor, and Morgan; next is my step-daughter, Denise; my step-son, Kip; and his brother and sister-in-law, and Susan. So much fun having them come paint….even it was “creepy gnomes”! LOL Too bad we didn’t get Allen in on the photo. He was serving as the artistic director for the event!

Friends from elementary school came together at The Studio yesterday to celebrate the holidays and friendship. We LOVE it when this happens and we get to be a part of it. Thanks Dianne, pictured in the middle, for sharing your friends with us. You remember her from the huge mural project recently (see it here).

After a great deal of planning, over 20 hours of painting, and I don’t know how much paint, Dianne and I completed the mural at her home. Well, almost complete. There are a few little details that I want to add….and Dianne wants us to put a little something in the field on the Summer panel…and I want to change the summer panel a bit so I’ll share it again when we finally do finish it. We’ll get to it as soon as Thanksgiving is over. We wanted to get it as far a possible so that Dianne could share it with her family tomorrow when they come to her home for Thanksgiving dinner. It was a BIG project. The wall is 26 feet long and the height is 8 feet. Did we mention it was a big project???!!!!

Dianne and I worked for 6 hours on the mural this weekend. We are getting very close now. She started painting frames around them while Lincoln supervised my touch-up and finals on the last panel. We still have a few more hours of detail work but it’s almost there.

We worked at Dianne’s this past week on her mural. You see Dianne here getting ready to work on the Summer panel while Lincoln relaxes from his difficult supervisory job. 🙂 We still have a way to go but we’re getting there. More to come.
