White Quince is an oil on canvas measuring 20″x16″ and is available for $295.

I love this time of the year when everything is blooming.  There are so many subjects for painting.  I generally take lots of photos during April and May so that I have subject matter for painting throughout the year.  Building a reference file is important if you paint everyday.

Mean Rooster III is an oil on canvas panel measuring 8″x6″ and is available for $125.

Mean Rooster belonged to Suzanne McMinn of Chickens in the Road.com fame.  If you haven’t checked out her blog yet take a look to the left at Sites of Interest and you will see a link to her blog.  It’s terrific.

Mean Rooster chased her around the yard and she had to fend him off with a broom!

Join us from 5-8 p.m. tonight for the 3rd Thursday Art Walk.  I will be painting at the Blue Ridge Arts Council and I invite you to join me.  Tonight’s theme is “Minds Wide Open” and we will be working on abstract pieces…and you can join in.  I’ll have all the supplies.  You just come ready to paint!!!

And abstract doesn’t always mean non-representational.  As you can see here there is a representational element to abstract art as well.  Come on down and see more.

Tomorrow is the 3rd Thursday Art Walk.  Each 3rd Thursday in downtown Front Royal many shops extend their hours until 8 p.m. and from 5-8 p.m. artists demonstrate at several locations.  Tomorrow not only will they demonstrate but they will encourage viewers to paint as well.

The theme for tomorrow’s art walk is “Minds Wide Open”, the same theme as my current show at the arts council.  Marlene  Kline and I will be at BRAC, 305 East Main Street, demonstrating and hopefully helping you paint an abstract work of art.

Please join us and try your hand at painting.  We’d love to see you there.

Shown here today are some of the abstract works in the current show that Marlene and I have on display at BRAC.

Saturday was a beautiful day for a festival and we had a great one downtown Front Royal.  The Wine & Craft Festival brought lots of people to Main Street and many stopped by to see us at Delilah’s.

And I worked on several paintings that day.  I even had a couple of children who helped paint a little.

I used to get really nervous painting in front of others but now that I have done it so often it doesn’t bother me.  I enjoy it in fact.  People generally have interesting questions about painting and are very encouraging.

We had a drawing for those who came into Delilah’s to register and this was our winner.  Sheron Nicodemus from Richmond was the lucky one and this was the painting she selected.  I got to spend a few minutes chatting with Sheron and she was just delightful.  Congratulations!

(Special thanks to Sandy Patterson for taking the photos of me painting and with Sheron.)
