Now that spring has finally arrived it seems right to begin painting flowers. This is “Dogwood Blossoms“, an acrylic on 12″x12” canvas, available for $95, that I painted last Saturday as a demonstration at Peebles. I’ll be painting another like it this Friday at a Birthday Paint Party. If you are looking for something fun to do with a group of friends or for your kids check out the information on Paint Parties. It’s a fun experience!

Donation to Warren County Government Center

In 2011 I taught an artist residency with kids at all five elementary schools to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of Warren County. We painted a large painting that each school now hangs for everyone to see. Read more about that project here and here.) For that project I painted a sample painting for the kids to see what it was that they would be producing during our time together. In the upper left corner of each painting that the school kids produced they painted their school.
I decided to paint out the school and paint the Government Center on the sample painting and then donate it to hang at the Center. Here is the completed painting. I am meeting Brandy at the Center this morning to hang the painting and I am very happy that they want to hang it right away. I’ll try to have some photos to share soon.
Nationals Park

The painting of Nationals Park is about 95% finished. It is the first in the series of 30 Major League Baseball parks I am painting as part of my Kickstarter Project. If you haven’t looked at my project PLEASE take a minute to look and pledge to make the project a reality. Thanks!
Now back to the painting. I often get questions about the process of finishing a painting. The way I work is that I get a painting to a point where I feel like it’s done and then I hang it and live with it so that I can look at it for a while. That way I can see if there is anything that I want to tweak. Maybe there is something that needs to be made stronger or maybe there is something that needs eliminating in order for the painting to work. With this one I am at the “living with it stage”. Now on to paint Orioles Field at Camden Yards.

My Kickstarter Project Has Launched – Yikes!

I am so excited and so scared at the same time. I launched a Kickstarter project last night so the clock is ticking to make it work. My project is “Painted Diamonds – 30 Ball Parks in 30 Weeks“. I plan to paint every major league ball park between now and the World Series. You can click here to see the project.
If you are new to Kickstarter take a look. They promote their site as a new way to fund creativity. They only accept creative projects. An artist lays out the project, writes it up and submits it for approval. If approved, it launches on the Kickstarter website for the world to see and hopefully to fund.
Funding is all or nothing. If the project doesn’t reach its goal then no money is exchanged. And for whatever amount is pledged a reward is offered.
It sounds confusing but it really is not. Please take a look. I’m asking all my friends and followers to please share this post with your friends. The more people who see it the better chance I have of making it happen. I’ll be updating you as the month goes on. I’ll try not to bore you with it but I want to keep you posted on my progress.
So here we go. I have a month to get the word out. Thanks for your help and consideration.
Opening Day of Baseball and Paint?
Posted in daily painter, tagged baseball, MLB on April 1, 2013| Leave a Comment »
What does Opening Day of Major League Baseball and painting have in common? A big project that I am working on, that’s what! I have been working on getting the plan ready for about a week now and it’s almost ready to launch. I hope that in the next day or so I can tell you all about it and that you will be as excited as I am about it. I know if you like baseball you will be.
So until I can announce it all I will say is “Play Ball”! And stay tuned.
Snow, Again?!!!

This is what we woke up to this morning. Lincoln went out and looked around and said, “What the heck?!” I have been working on a huge Plein-air project that I am excited about getting started but it’s going to be really difficult to start with snow everywhere. Here are some quick shots from my yard at 6:30 a.m. this morning.

Sleeping Jake

A few months ago, my friend Jen posted a picture of her sweet boy Jake with his new bed. I just loved it so I asked if I could paint it. Here is my version along with the original photo. The painting is acrylic on 12″x12″ canvas. I love working with unusual angles and compositions like this. I have painted Jake before with his sister Juneau. You can see that by clicking here. Thanks Jen for giving me such sweet subject matter to work with this week. (And this painting has sold! Yeah!)

We are expecting 12-18″ more snow today. Yikes. Good day to pull out some art books and read and stay warm.
