Crochet Mickey

Crochet Mickey

A month or so ago a friend asked me to crochet a Mickey Mouse outfit for her newborn grandson.  Really?  So, of course, I said I would give it a try.  (Actually I said you crochet too.  Why don’t you try it? LOL)  And here it the result.

I am hoping she takes a photo of him soon in it so I can see how it turned out.

2014-09-17 13 43 35Yesterday I met the nice young man who was the recipient of the painting that I did recently of the “View from Harrisonburg”.  (You can see the step by step photos here.)   The painting was a graduation gift as he just graduated from JMU.

And he wanted to take a photo with me when he picked it up.  And he promised to send me a photo of where he hangs the painting.

20140825_130757Several weeks ago I was commissioned to paint a farewell gift for a staffer leaving an office here in town.  Her favorite hike at Shenandoah National Park is Mary’s Rock so that was the subject for the painting.

They gave it to her yesterday and she liked it!

20140819_083027 I recently received a commission to paint a scene from Harrisonburg with the mountains in the background.   It is a graduation gift.  It took a little longer than normal because it’s a larger painting, 18″x24″ acrylic on canvas.

P1010870 P1010868If you recall, I had an interesting commission before Christmas from a gentleman to paint three paintings for his family of scenes from North Carolina where they spent time as kids and that had meaning for them.  (See the posts for those paintings here, 2nd one here, and the last here.)  I got the nicest email from him this past week and he gave me permission to share it:

“I just got back from visiting my family in North Carolina and thought you would like to see us  (me, my brothers and my 97-year-old Mother) all holding our paintings. My youngest brother has promised to put them in rustic frames of Rhododendron he is making.  Thanks again.”
What a treat to hear this!  Thanks Worth.

I was thrilled to be asked over the last month or two to do several commissions this Christmas.  I have been waiting to post them on my blog so that I would not spoil the surprise for those receiving them as gifts.  Now I can share them with you.

“Walking the Boardwalk” is a watercolor of a father with his kids walking down a boardwalk.  I love the image that was sent to me so it was  a really fun piece to do.

Sam with completed cabin paiting

Sam with completed cabin painting

Sam hard at work on the cabin

Sam hard at work on the cabin

Last month I had a private painting lesson with Sam.  She painted her aunt and uncle’s cabin for them as a surprise Christmas gift.

Her grandmother, Barbara, arranged it all.  I got a message yesterday that they got the gift and LOVED it.  What’s not to love about that kind of thoughtful gift.  And Sam did a SUPER job.  What a sweet girl!!!

It’s not too late to give your own gift of art.  Book a private lesson and paint a gift for someone you love.  Or buy a gift certificate for someone to have something they choose painted like their home or a pet portrait.  Or how about a gift certificate for art classes?  Lots of ideas for gifts of art.  Contact kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com for more information.
