Last week at art class Ethan painted the Front Royal Caboose. Really great job Ethan! Young artists, ages 7-12, have class on Thursday at 4:15. Why don’t you bring your young artist to paint with us?

Artist Reception at Buggy B’s

Last night Buggy B’s, a wonderful little gift shop on King Street in Strasburg, VA, hosted an artist reception for the artist they represent. If you haven’t been to Buggy B’s you should stop by to see them. They have a beautiful gift selection as well as local arts and crafts. And their resident florist, Barbara Plitt, makes beautiful arrangements with fresh or silk flowers.
It was a nice event and even gave the artists time to get to know each other better. I enjoyed talking with Diane Furlong, a terrific pastel artist from Strasburg. You can see her work here.

I couldn’t paint all those ball parks over the last six months and not include our very own “Bing Crosby Stadium”. So number 31 in my series of Painted DIamonds is The Bing, as it is affectionately known in Front Royal. It opened in April of 1950 and is the home to the Front Royal Cardinals, a collegiate summer baseball team.
There are many variations to the story of how the stadium got its name. Here is one:
In 1948, while serving as Grand Marshall of the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, Bing Crosby came to Front Royal at the invitation of Senator Raymond R. Guest to help with a fund-raising campaign for a new ball park. He contributed $1,000 to the effort. In 1950, Mr. Crosby returned to Front Royal for the premiere of his movie, “Riding High”, and made another contribution of $3,572.92, which completed the fund-raising campaign.
A plaque at the stadium reads as follows: “The stadium was dedicated on April 1, 1950. It was erected by the people of Front Royal and Warren County in sincere appreciation of Bing Crosby’s assistance in promoting recreational facilities for the youth of this community. “
A Poster of Painted Diamonds

I’ve spent the last couple of days preparing the layout for a poster of the Painted Diamonds series. It went to print last night. Woo Hoo! This is part of the Kickstarter rewards. Pledges at the certain level will receive a poster. Others will get a print of a certain field and at the higher level pledge some will receive an actual painting.
We will also have posters and prints available for sale beginning next week as well as the original paintings that have not already sold.
If you have a baseball fan in your family this is a great gift idea for Christmas. Something unique for the person who already has everything!

Last Saturday we had the Festival of Leaves in downtown Front Royal. Even though it was a rainy day we had people coming by Delilah’s to see all the new work we have by the wonderful artists who are there. I set up outside in a tent and started a new vineyard painting. Here is the start of it.

I finished the last ball park painting in the series of 30 last night about 10 pm while watching a great ball game on TV. This wrapped up a 6 month project and I have to say I felt relief to get it done. Now to prepare for the exhibit and the opening reception on October 23rd from 6-8 pm at the Blue Ridge Arts Council. Please plan to attend and see all the paintings.
This is the final MLB painting in the series: Yankee Stadium – home of the New York Yankees, winner of 27 World Series.

I’ve been working on a few vineyard paintings in between painting Baseball Parks to prepare a few pieces for a new winery, Winding Road Cellars, that will be hanging my work. Here is one I just finished.
