Here is another Jelly Roll Quilt that we will be learning to make at an upcoming Quilting Workshop on Saturday, May 20th. It is so convenient to buy jelly rolls, a group of 2 1/2″ x 42″ strips in a variety of coordinating fabrics, to cut down on cutting time and enabling you to work up a quick quilt. Another reason that quilters love jelly rolls is that the fabrics are wonderfully matched so it cuts out having to select and match fabrics. If you would like to learn to quilt this is a good starter project. Click here to register and for more information.

It is quite an accomplishment to make a quilt. But to make a quilt in a day and a half….well that is something else altogether! And that is just what these 6 quilters did this weekend. We started on Friday evening and finished yesterday around 6:30. Aren’t they just amazing!!!! We used the Quilt As You Go method so these quilts are all done. Everyone did a great job with their color and fabric choices. I wish you could see them in person as they are so much prettier than in the photos. Nice work Debbie, Julie, Pat, Terry, Troy and Sherry. You ROCK!!!!!! We have another class coming up next weekend. Can’t wait to see what they do. And if you have ever wanted to learn to sew we have a class this Thursday on making a Table Runner that is beginner friendly….plus it only takes about an hour. Why not come learn to sew so there may be a quilt in your future. Click here to register for the Table Runner Class or to learn more.

The very first Paint Party ever at Capon Springs was a HUGE success!  The painters were terrific and did a fabulous job creating a beautiful work of art featuring the Band Stand at the Resort.

Capon Springs is an all inclusive family mountain resort …. and while it is only about 32 miles from Front Royal it seems a really long way away.  It’s like going back in time.  I told my friend who went last night to help with the Paint Party that it is “32 miles and 6 decades away”!  It’s wonderful.  You can learn more about it here.  We had a grand time enjoying dinner there before the Paint Party.  It was delightful to see all these multi-generational families sitting together passes plates and bowls of food around the table and having conversations while dining.  I am thrilled that Jonathan, one of the owners of this gem, has invited me to come back and teach again.

I’ll be back for another Paint Party and we will also be offering a multi disciplined Art Week in the Fall.  Stay tuned for more info soon.  You will definitely want to plan to go for a few days.

I took a Bob Burridge workshop on Saturday at Art of the Carolinas.  Here are some scenes from that afternoon.  Bob is all about working fast and loose…no small brushes…he uses paper towels and his fingers.  I love the effect!

2015-05-11 07 25 24_resizedOften when people think of painters they imagine an artist with an easel set up outdoors painting.  And many artists do paint that way but not as many as you would think.  Plein Air painting is not as simple as it looks.  There are many things to consider but it is very rewarding.

If you have wanted to give Plein Air painting a try why not join us for the Plein Air Workshop later this month.  Click here for additional information and to register.

Back at Sassafras!

I am back at Sassafras Farm for the September Primitives and Pioneers Retreat.  Today we will milk the cow, make corn cob jelly, pick supplies for potpourri, paint a folk art painting and make taper candles.  Are you tired yet?
And that is just the first day.  I will get lots of photos to share tomorrow. That is if I am not too tired.
