Purple and Orange I & II, acrylic on paper, 16″x20″ matted original paintings, available for $65 each.  I ran across these paintings while in my cleaning mode over the past week and am offering them on sale.  I missed a prolonged fall with lovely leaves this year.  “Miss Sandy” blew them away.  Contact kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com to purchase.  I’ll be glad to send them to you.  🙂

Miss Gaylor is one of my oldest students.  She paints with me each week at The Southerlands.  And she prefers painting strawberries if at all possible.  This past Tuesday she painted these.  She always tells me she can’t see what she is painting but I don’t believe her.  Didn’t she do great?  Read more about Miss Gaylor here.

It’s not even Halloween yet and with Sandy headed our way we are hearing that we may have snow…and almost certainly power outages.

We are hunkered down here with plenty of supplies for the pups and me just waiting to see what happens.  At least I’ll get early snow reference photos this year.  🙂

I grew up in Southeast Georgia.  It’s really low and flat there and our falls never had colors like we see here in Virginia.  My mother loved the colors so we always traveled to the “mountains” in the fall to enjoy the season.  We usually went to the Great Smokey Mountains.  The colors there are a lot like here.

Several years ago Allen and I took his 90-year-old aunt, Honnie,  over to West Virginia to visit her other nephew at his mountain house.  This is the view from their deck.  Honnie called this painting “Scattered Rugs” (oil on canvas, 18″x24″).  And she wrote a poem about it.  I’ve searched everywhere for where I put the poem and when I find it I’ll post it here for you all to see.

A few weeks ago I painted outdoors at Glen Manor Winery.  You can read about that here.  When painting in plein-air I generally get a painting to a point where it is about 85-90% complete.  Then I take it back to the studio where I put on the finishing details.

This photo shows the completed painting still on the easel with the reference photo.

Pat has been painting with me on Wednesdays for several years now and she does a terrific job!  Here she is with a Santa painting she just completed.  Then she started right away on a beautiful fall scene with a covered bridge.  Way to go Pat!  Keep making beautiful art.

MeMaw, oil on canvas, 6″x6″.

This is MeMaw.  She showed up at Allen’s warehouse about 3 years ago with three little yellow kittens.  She was tiny and thin and, of course, Allen took them in and started feeding her and eventually the three boys as they got bigger.  They were wild but he spent time working with them and now they all are tame with him.  They have a good life at the warehouse with Allen.  This little painting was Allen’s birthday present. (You can see Bob, one of the yellow kittens all grown up here.)

I’m thinking this morning of Truman and Jefferson, the two dogs that I had when I first wanted to build a dog park in our community.  Tru and Jeffie really needed space to run off the leash.  That is what got the whole thing started.  And today we are having a “Celebration of Dogs” at the new dog park as a grand opening event.  The  park has been officially open now for about 6 weeks and it’s a wonderful place for dogs to run and play and exercise.

The three dogs I now have – Jed, Lincoln and Mamie – love it.  Their favorite time of the day is early morning when we go to the park for our exercise.  I know Jeffie and Truman would have loved it too!
