A Walk in the Snow is an oil on 9″x12″ canvas panel that we did in art class.  It is available by contacting me at kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com .

If you have ever wanted to learn to paint let me remind you that we have classes at the Blue Ridge Arts Council on Wednesday at 5 p.m. each week.  All levels from beginner to advanced are welcome to join us.  And if that time doesn’t suit you, just contact me to work out a time that will.  I’d love to work with you so that you can enjoy creating paintings as much as I do.

Riding the Drive is an oil on 12″x12″ gallery wrap 1 1/2″ canvas.  This painting was done as a Christmas gift for Allen who loves bicycling on the Skyline Drive.  We live in an area where there are so many beautiful scenes to paint especially scenes from Skyline Drive across the Shenandoah Valley.

This is the beginning of a new painting year.   Last year ended with 216 paintings done over the course of the year.  I am working on a plan for this years goals and should have something ready to share this week.  Until then I will continue with the daily work.

The Tree Out Front is an oil on 6″x8″ canvas and is available for $95.  We still have lots of snow and it makes everything look so different that I want to paint all the scenes with snow on them now.  I’ll have to settle for taking photos to build my reference file.

This is the reference photo and how it looks on the easel with the painting.  This photo was taken from my front door looking to the left down the street.

This is the beginning of the painting, Shenandoah Fall.  I was reminded recently by a couple of blog readers that  you like to see the progress of a painting.  I forget to take photos because I get caught up in what I am doing when I paint.  I’ll try to remember to stop and take some photos so that I can post the progression in the future.

The palette I worked with looked like this.  I often use palette paper which makes for a much easier clean-up when I finish work.  I generally use about 6 or 7 colors when I paint and blend them together to get the tones I need.

And this is the complete painting, Shenandoah Fall I, which measures 6″x8″ and is framed and available at Delilah’s for $145.  There is a companion piece that I did at the same time that I will post soon.

Late Autumn is an oil on canvas panel measuring 8″x10″ and is available for $165.  I love the way some trees look at this time of the year when the leaves have left them and you can see all the limbs reaching out.

Most days I spend several hours painting, several hours working on marketing, and several hours teaching.  But sometimes I get to work with art in a different way.

Yesterday I met a young man who is a student at Lord Fairfax Community College who is doing a paper on art galleries.  He visited Delilah’s Art Gallery to gather some information for his paper.  It is always fun to talk to someone about the gallery and about art and how it is made and marketed.  Good luck Jeff with your paper.
