Meet Larry the Lobster.  I ate him.  Well, I ate him several months ago on my trip to Newport.  He was delicious.  Now he’s just a memory, a memory in paint.  Larry the Lobster, oil on canvas, 9″x12″, available by contacting kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com .

This is Larry before I devoured him.  I have to say, he was VERY good!  Larry I am grateful for your sacrifice.

Yesterday morning my friend Linda and I went up to Dickey Ridge Visitor Center to do a little plein air painting.  This was my set up and view to paint.

As often happens when I paint on location, curious onlookers will ask questions or comment on the painting.  And yesterday I met a really nice family from India, now living in Dubai.

Their daughter, Kiara, was very interested in what I was doing so I showed her and even asked her to help.  She took the brush and help put a little paint on the canvas.

Kiara’s parents watched.  Her grandmother was there too.  They had flown into Canada and were touring the U.S. for a month.  What fun!  I’m glad they stopped at Dickey Ridge while we were there painting.

And then they were gone.  I had to finish the painting all by myself.

So Kiara, here it is.  Our painting almost done.

Anyone interested in purchasing this or any painting can contact me at kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com .  It was a great morning of painting outdoors.  (And thanks Linda for snapping the shots of me and Kiara.)

Yesterday I spend a delightful afternoon at Prince Michel Winery north of Madison, Virginia participating in a Quick Draw to benefit SAFE, Services to Abused Families, Inc.  About 20 artists came together to either demonstrate their medium or compete in the Quick Draw competition.

Luckily, the event was held inside since the weather was so unbearably hot.

We had just one hour to paint a work of art that we donated to the live auction that was held to benefit SAFE.  The audience was particularly kind to me and I was designated “Crowd Favorite” both by the numbers observing and my painting earning the highest auction bid.

I had a terrific time painting and meeting some new artists from the Madison area.  And many thanks to my friend and fellow painter Linda Kusior who came to support me and for taking most of the photos here.

Yesterday was Plein Air Thursday.  But I didn’t have time to go to the location where the group was painting so I decided to go up in the Shenandoah National Park to the Dickey Ridge overlook and paint for a few hours.  It’s such a lovely drive and so hard to believe that it is only 5 miles from my house.

This is the view I selected for the painting and the start of the piece.

And these next few shots are the progress I made throughout the next hour or so.

By the time I left I felt as if I were about 90% done with the painting.  I will touch it up a little and then it will go down to Delilah’s where hopefully someone will see it and want to take it home.

Tomorrow I will tell you about the best part of painting at Dickey Ridge yesterday…

Several months ago some friends who do wonderful work with German Shepherd Rescue stopped by Delilah’s with their latest rescue.  She doesn’t look at all like a German Shepherd!

This little Gem is the cutest thing.  She was bashful on her first visit but let me snap this photo.  I couldn’t resist painting it.

She came back to visit a few weeks ago and has grown a little and is more outgoing and a little less skittish.  And she is definitely a daddy loving girl.  Her dad has salt and pepper hair and a beard so they even look a little alike.

A Little Gem, acrylic on canvas, 16″x12″, available at Delilah’s or by contacting kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com .

Having visited Sassafras Farm last week put me in the mood to add to my “Farm Animal” series.  I took loads of new photos to work from so I will get started on those very soon.

Here is “Mr. Hyde”, an oil painting on canvas, measuring 8″x6″, that I painted from a previous trip there.  This painting, along with others in the “Farm Animal” series is available at Delilah’s on Main Street in Front Royal.
