N6048A is an oil on canvas measuring 12″x24″. This was a gift a couple of years ago for Allen but since I just posted the info yesterday about our trip I thought it might be nice to show this painting today. This is often how it looks as we get ready to go, with the mountains in the background.

Jekyll Island, Georgia

We just returned from a quick trip down to Jekyll Island Georgia for the Commander’s Fly-In. We stayed at the Jekyll Island Club which was the old Millionaire’s Club. It was built in the very early 1900’s by several millionaires as an exclusive escape.

We were there for Allen to meet with other pilots who have Commander airplanes. About 40 came from all over the United States, as far away as California.

There was a lot of watching planes fly…..

And lots of standing around talking and looking at planes….

And lots of pretty scenery like the beach…

and the marsh.

And beautiful, huge live oak trees with moss hanging.

And shrimp boats going out to work.

But most of all there was great fellowship and sharing of information. These are some of the pilots who came to the final evenings dinner by the ocean. (That’s Allen, fifth from the right.) We had a very good time.

Mackinaw Island

Michigan view from plane This past weekend we flew to Michigan to Boyne Falls. This is what it looks like from the air.

Michigan Planes in Line 1 We met with a group of folks that all have Commander airplanes. It’s a great group of folks. All crazy and fun! We did a fly out one day to Mackinaw Island. This is the view from out of the back window of the other planes lined up on the taxi way all ready to fly out together to Mackinaw.

Michigan Mackinaw Taxi The great thing about Mackinaw Island is that there is no motorized vehicles. So when we all arrived and call for the taxi, this is what came to pick us up.

Michigan Mackinaw Grand Hotel from Taxi Life is definitely moving at a much slower pace on the island. It took 20 minutes to get from the little airport to the downtown area. This is the view from the “taxi” of the road leading to the Grand Hotel.

Michigan Mackinaw pilots And this is the crew of pilots that made the trip over to Mackinaw. About 20 men and me!!! You wouldn’t believe how difficult it is to get them all moving in the same direction. It was just like herding cats!

It was a great afternoon and I’m so glad that I got to see Mackinaw Island. It is one of those places on my list to see and it was worth it. The day was gorgeous and I got lots of great photos for my reference file for painting. Maybe you’ll see one soon.
