Yesterday afternoon I worked with 26 young artists at Angel’s Korner and we painted poppies….lots and lots of poppies.
The students range in ages from 5 -12. They painted beautiful orange-red flowers. Good job everyone!

We had a great first day of Art Camp yesterday at the Blue Ridge Arts Council. I have six students (one is camera-shy) and they all produced great art.
We started with the basic color wheel, mixing colors, learning about primary and complementary colors. They picked that up really fast!
Then they painted their first piece of art. It’s a beautiful mountain scene. Everyone of them did a fabulous job! No kiddie art for these guys…they are making real grown-up art! I love it!!!

These young artist did a great job painting the Farm Gate a few weeks ago.
This is just an example of the kinds of paintings that the kids will do in Summer Art Camp. The first weeklong camp will begin June 27th and is for students ages 7 – 12. If you have a budding artist, please contact me for more information. There is still a couple of spaces left for that week. There are five weeks to choose from so if that week doesn’t work for you, just email me at kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com and I can send you the full schedule.

The young artists, 4th graders, from all five elementary schools who participated in the 175th Anniversary Art project were honored last night at an Opening Reception of their work at the Community Center. Their art will hang there until the end of July when it will return their schools as a permanent display.
Many students and parents turned out to see the five collages. And so did the TV station. Three of the students were interviewed for a story that ran last night on TV-3.
Good job girls! (See there video here.)
Make time to stop by and see the beautiful art that these children created to honor the 175th Anniversary of Warren County!
(You can read more about the project on past posts in March and April of this blog and by starting here.)

So yesterday one of my young artists, Maggie, painted from the same photo. Here is her version of the farm landscape. Good job Maggie!!!

Yesterday, I was invited to paint an art demonstration at The Southerlands. This is the piece that I did for them. I was showing them how easy it is to paint in anticipation of them beginning a painting class.
