Our final painting for Art Camp was a version of Van Gogh’s Starry Night. He did a couple of them…most people only recognize the one.
Here are the kids working on theirs. We got so busy finalizing everything and framing their works for the week that I forgot to take a photo of the final painting. Maybe when the show goes up at the Community Center featuring their works I can get one then. 😦
All in all, we had a fabulous summer of painting and discovered the talent of many young painters in our community!

This week’s theme at Art Camp is a combination of several types of art. Yesterday at Art Camp we talked about Modern Art. We began painting a Matisse. You see Tyler here working on his.
Once we got the Matisse to a good place, we went on to work on a Picasso. (It is Modern Day, after all!)
Here is the young artists at work on their “masterpiece”!
Stay tuned and the finished paintings will be posted.
Great job everyone. Let’s keep up the good work!

The final week of Art Camp for the summer began yesterday at the Blue Ridge Arts Council.
We started by painting the color wheel and learning about color mixing. Then the young artists went on to learn about Monet and we painted this lovely version of Monet’s poppy field using just the three basic colors – red, yellow, and blue, plus white.
Can you believe they did this with just those colors? Great job guys!

The Farms and Barns Show at the Blue Ridge Arts Council opened last night with a good crowd coming in to see it.
Here is my Oxbow Sunflowers along with my four Thursday young artists version of the same scene. It looks great hanging all together.
I also have a display of Farm Animals hanging for this show. They look pretty good altogether like this.
Stop by BRAC to see these and all the other nice paintings of Warren County.

Last week my young artists at Angel’s Korner began painting a larger painting (11″x14″). They made nice progress.
Yesterday they completed their paintings and didn’t they do a really nice job??!!
After leaving my 34 young artists I met with Jacob and Kelsey, my private students from West Virginia who come here to make beautiful art. Their paintings were really great!
Then at regular Wednesday Kids Class we painted a wonderful landscape scene. This is Maggie and Judd. This was Judd’s first lesson with me and he did great. He’s a cute guy and quite a talker and I think he will be a wonderful artist too!

Several weeks ago as I was preparing for Modern Art Camp for the kids I decided I needed to attempt a copy of a Matisse painting since that’s what we would be doing for camp. The one on the left, Lady in a Purple Dress, is
the one I did. My Wednesday Young Artists gave it a go too. Charlee is shown her with her beautiful version.
And this is Maggie with her excellent version. Great job girls. It was fun painting in a little different style and learning more about Matisse.

The final painting during Modern Art Week Camp was a study of Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Can.
And look at the fabulous job each of these young artists did with their painting.
All ten students did beautiful work this whole week.
There are only two weeks of art camp left this summer. The week of August 8 and the week of August 22. Both of these weeks will explore a variety of styles from impressionism to modern. There are only a couple of slots left in each week so sign your young artist up now. Email me at kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com .

Art Camp this week is going great. We are working on Modern Art paintings. We just completed our “Matisse” painting. Here are some of the young artists working on their Matisse.
Then after working with the Art Campers all morning I rushed over to Angel’s Korner where my next group was waiting….34 young artists, ages 5-11. We painted berries. Here are some of the 34 Strawberry paintings that they did.
Good job everyone!!!
