Reens Paint PartyI had the most delightful evening leading a Paint Party for Reen’s Birthday.  This was a fun group of ladies and they painted some wonderful dogwood paintings.  Everyone was so enthusiastic about painting and it came through in their work.  Great job everyone….and Happy Birthday Reen!

And the little cutie in the front middle is Cassie.  She was the life of the party.  🙂  For more information on Paint Parties click here.

220px-Van_Gogh_Self-Portrait_with_Straw_Hat_1887-MetropolitanBorn on March 30, 1853, Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist who didn’t paint until his late twenties but produced more than 860 oil paintings, as well as several thousand drawings and watercolors before he died of a gunshot wound at the age of 37.  And while his bright, colorful, energetic work was not appreciated by the art world and collectors during his lifetime, he is now one of the most recognizable artists in history.

Art Camp Week1 Day Five Van GoghOf all the paintings by famous artists that I have done with my kids classes and at Art Camp the one, by far, that the kids know and want to paint is Starry Night

Van Gogh’s brother, Theo, who was an art dealer, supported him throughout his life.  Theo died six months after Vincent.  Theo’s wife, Johanna, inherited the bulk of Vincent’s paintings and it was she who promoted his work after his death and because of her constant promotion, we know Vincent Van Gogh today as the wonderful painter he was.  f_0671One of my favorite Van Gogh paintings, Blossoming Almond Tree, is one that his family cherished.  Van Gogh painted this piece as a gift to his brother’s newborn baby.  Vincent was deeply moved when they name the baby Vincent. It is an excellent example of the Japanese influence in art that he admired.

Painting should be fun!  As these delightful ladies found out last Friday evening.  I was thrilled to paint with them at their “Girls Night Out” and we had a terrific time.  Even though a couple were hesitant at first about giving it a try, in the end they were all really glad they did and thrilled with the result.

Painting Parties are great fun for kids or adults.  And there  are many, many subjects to choose from to tailor it to whatever theme you may have.  Check out more information here and contact kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com to book your party today.

Great job ladies and thanks for all the laughs.  I had fun too!

The final day of the final week of Art Camp this summer saw us finishing our Warhol Pop Art paintings.  Half of the group  painted the Warhol Eagle and the other half painted a flamingo in the pop art style of Warhol.

We had a fabulous week of painting.  And the favorite part of every art camp week for the kids is the Artist Trading Cards.

Each young artist paints a small painting, the size of a trading card, and then exchanges them with their fellow artists.  It’s a nice memento of their week with new friends.

Thursday at Art Camp we worked on a Van Gogh.  Since we’ve done Starry Night in the past we decided to something else that Vincent is well-known for, Sunflowers.  And didn’t these kids do a great job!  Just beautiful.

Wednesday was almost the perfect day at Art Camp.  We worked on a pointillism piece as the students learned about a different type of art.

And the Adult Class joined us later in the morning.  Jeff brought Breeze with him to class and she was the most popular one in the class.  All the kids loved her and gave her cookies.  She’s such a great dog!

But the best part of the day for me was first thing this morning before Art Camp started when Maggie brought me this painting that she did for me!  I love it!  Thanks so much Maggie.  You ROCK too!

Yesterday’s art camp focused on Henri Matisse.  I love the brilliant colors and definite style of his work and I think the kids enjoyed it too!

Maggie and Isaac are working on their paintings and  you can see Anastasia in the background hard at work.

And here is Peter and Anastasia working away.

Jade and Teaghan work on mixing just the right color to make it perfect!

Good job everyone.  Now tomorrow we will show you our attempt at Pointillism.

The final week of Art Camp started yesterday with a fine group of young painters.  And as usual, we started by painting a color wheel.  As I told the ones who have painted with me before and already painted a color wheel, you can never paint enough of them.  I’ll bet I’ve painted several hundred over the last few years and learn something every time I paint one.

The first painting we did was a landscape in an impressionistic style.  And didn’t everyone do a fantastic job?  Just wait to see what we do tomorrow!
