The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show begins this evening in New York City. This lovely lady is Hickory Wind, winner of last year’s show. And local resident…she lives in Flint Hill. We had the good fortune to meet her last March when she came to the Opening Reception of the Bark for the Park art show. The painting of her is acrylic, 12″x12″ on gallery wrap canvas.
We wish her a happy retirement. And hope you will all watch the show and remember to rescue your best friends. There are so many who need you.

It’s Lincoln’s Birthday. Yes, that Lincoln too! Since my Lincoln was adopted and we weren’t sure when his birthday was we figured with a name like Lincoln he came with a built-in birthday. 🙂
So here are the many faces of Stinkin’ Lincoln. Happy Birthday to our boy who is turning 3 today.

Many thanks to Petco Store Manager Sherry Bailey for allowing us to sell raffle tickets for the Dog Park at Petco on Saturday. Here’s Sherry with one of her many admirers!

Cezanne Becomes Priciest Painting Ever
Not so fast, David Choe—you can no longer call your Facebook murals the most expensive work of art, because Qatar has come to the rescue. The oil-rich country has bought Paul Cezanne’s painting The Card Players for more than $250 million, making it by far the highest price ever paid for a work of art. Up until this point, the most expensive painting ever sold was a Jackson Pollock for $140 million in the frenzied pre-recession year of 2006,(check out more about it here) and in recent days the graffiti artist David Choe was reportedly given Facebook stock options for decorating the company’s murals in 2005 that cost mere thousands then but will now be worth some $200 million after the social-network giant goes public. But Cezanne’s small, quietly somber work beats them all—there are four other Card Players in the world, and they are at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Courtauld in London, and the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. (Be looking soon for another post about the Barnes Foundation. Trust me it’s interesting!)

Dog Park I & II are two watercolor paintings that I did about 5 years ago as the first fundraiser for the Off-Leash Dog Park. These pieces were raffled and then we made prints to sell all to benefit the park. Prints are still available at Delilah’s with the proceeds benefiting the park fund.
Hard to believe that we’ve been working on building an off-leash park 
for that long but we have. The good news is that we are working on our final fundraiser. It’s a raffle also. (We’ve come full circle!) We call it the Westminster Dog Show Raffle because we have tied it to the show coming up February 13-14, 2012. If you want to help just buy at ticket for $10. The number on your raffle ticket will be randomly assigned to one of the 185 breeds showing this year at Westminster. If your dog wins, you win $350. You have a 1 in 185 chance to win.
We will be at Petco in Front Royal Saturday beginning at 10:00 to sell tickets. Stop in and get yours. Or stop by Delilah’s. We have tickets there too. Or contact me at kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com and I’ll get a ticket to you. When we finish this fundraiser we’ll be ready to break ground. Can I hear a Halleluiah!!!!!
