I have painted this view many times. It is the one we see as we look west from our little town. This one, Signal Knob for Cindy, is a 4″ x 12″ acrylic on gallery wrap canvas and was a Christmas gift for a friend who doesn’t live here any longer.

The 1st Saturday Paint Party was FUN yesterday. We painted our pet’s portrait. They all turned out fabulous! It was a fun evening with lots of wonderful snacks and lots of laughing. Thanks for the fun party girls. And your paintings are vibrant and gorgeous! Great job!
Let’s do it again soon!

This afternoon is the 1st Saturday Paint Party for 2014. We are painting our own pet portraits and the class is full. But we will be scheduling another Paint Your Own Pet Portrait soon so be looking for the date. And tomorrow we will post the results of this afternoons party. This photo is of Margaret and Adele who painted their pets at the last session we held.
These parties are great fun and an excellent way to try your hand at painting even if you have never painted before. It is a fun and relaxed environment and everyone comes out of it with a successful painting. Consider joining us next month on the 1st Saturday. Just contact kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com to register or to find out more.

One of the best things for me about traveling is going to small galleries and co-ops to see what artists in other parts of the country are doing. Yesterday I stopped into Bluffton, SC, an adorable little town filled with creative people.
They have an “Arts District” filled with shops and galleries including the gallery of the Society of Bluffton Artists, a non-profit organization established to promote a stimulating community environment for the visual arts and artists. It is operated by artist members. They featured a wonderful exhibit called 12 – all the paintings were 12″x12″ and available for $150 each. We saw some wonderful examples of local and regional art. Terrific idea.
When you travel be sure to explore local art!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for my blog. It’s an interesting look back:
Here’s an excerpt:
The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 56,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 21 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

I am heading across the bridge this morning to go to Beaufort to have brunch with a friend. I took photo a few days ago when I rode across on the bicycle. I love driving the back roads to see different things so of course, I will have camera in hand. This view is certainly one I will be painting soon.

We enjoyed a relaxing day yesterday biking around and stopping to see some amazing art. These horse sculptures just stand out in an open space by the marsh. I couldn’t find anything nearby who said who created them so I Googled it when I got back to the house. Here is what I found:
“These unique horse sculptures are a part of Hilton Head Island’s growing art collection. May 1st they were placed on a parcel of town-owned property beside William Hilton Head Parkway near mid-island. The sculptures are by Jonathan Bowling of Greenville, NC and are made from repurposed steel. Previously they were on display at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn on the north end of the island.”
I have been wanting to learn to weld so this makes me want to even more!

No time to paint yesterday as I was traveling. VACATION….finally! WooHoo. Going to enjoy some time off but, of course, when you produce art for a living you still see art and paintings everywhere you look. You just can’t shut it off so this morning I saw this still life in the kitchen. 🙂 Maybe I will paint it.
I am hoping to gather some reference photos today and visit an art exhibit or two. More to come…

Maggie, the Blue Tick Heeler, is another commission I did for Christmas.
Maggie is an acrylic on 12″x12″ canvas. I was just told yesterday that she was a big hit with her recipient. I like hearing that.
