2015-04-04 07 57 51_resizedI arrived a The Village at Orchard Ridge about an hour early yesterday for art class so I set up a canvas and started this little painting.  I am hoping to get there early again next time and finish it up.  It’s a good start!

WindmillsThe Kid’s Class painted lovely tulip fields with windmills this week.  Great work everyone!

Small FlowerAfter I got tagged yesterday on Facebook about a Yarn Bombing there was a lot of conversation about that as well as making small crochet flowers to put in trees to make it look like spring until spring arrives. There are so many flower patterns but here is a simple little one that always turns out nice and can be made with 4 or 5 petals. Give it a try.

Small Flower

Ch 4 and join with sl st.

Round 1: Ch 1 and then 4 sc in ring, sl st in top or ch 1 to join

Round 2: ch 4, 2tr, ch 4, sl st in same stitch.  Sl st in next chain.

Repeat in each sc to make 5 petals.

Cut yarn, weave in ends.

Yesterday was the birthday of Vincent Van Gogh in 1853.  I didn’t want to let the day pass without recognizing him.  While he never achieved fame during his lifetime for his paintings, now almost everyone recognizes his works…and they are quite amazing.  Click on this link to enjoy his many paintings.

Unusual Sky

I am away from the easel for a few days but have been taking some reference photos.   This morning while driving in South Carolina I saw the most unusual clouds in the sky.

capital The Kids Art Class did a wonderful job painting the capital building this week.  Don’t you think?

We are having a “Granny Square Crochet Class” at The Studio soon (check it out here) and here are a few of the patterns we will be learning in addition to the traditional Granny Square.

Why don’t you get out your hooks and join us?!

Prickley Pear   Throwback Thursday!

Hard to believe it was in the Fall of 2009 that I visited Arizona and then painted this when I got home.  You can read about it here.

Twenty-five years ago this week the largest art heist in history took place in Boston.  You may remember that I posted about it a couple of years ago.  (Read that here.)  I have visited the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum several times and get an eerie feeling every time I come across an empty frame.

There are many theories about what happened to the art valued at $500 million and this interesting article in Gizmodo lays out a few.  Take a look here.

What do you think happened to it?
