Two summers ago in art camp we created flags in multi-media. The kids did a great job showing their love of country.
Now you show yours and go VOTE! No matter for whom you vote, just vote. It’s important. Thanks.

Come to the Dog Park on Sunday afternoon from 3 – 5 p.m. for the “Celebration of Dogs”, the grand opening event for the park. We will have over a dozen vendors with great give-aways for everyone who comes. We will also have the dog park merchandise available – hats, fleece jackets and tote bags. Be the first to get yours and help us add an agility course to the park.
Hope to see you there with your socialized dogs!

Isn’t this the cutest little guy? This is Chase Houston Criser. He’s my godson. Yesterday we spent the day with his family for his Baptism. It was a wonderful day with family.
This is his big sister, Carson, with her grandpa (Bill is Allen’s brother-in-law) making homemade pizza for lunch. It was terrific!
Carson is Allen’s god-daughter. And they play this fun tackle game every time they get together. Well, it’s fun for Carson. Not so sure about Allen although he looks like he’s having fun here. And Carson runs at him so fast she looks like a ghost!
It was a great day with family.

When I moved to Front Royal almost 15 years ago into a quiet little established neighborhood the first person to come to welcome me was my across the street neighbor, Clara Larsen. She was friendly and warm and made me feel like I belonged.
Over the years Clara and I became really great friends. We had lots in common: the love of politics (even though our views were far apart) and art (she too is a painter). We would go to events together and sometimes just have a glass of wine at the end of the day.
Clara, who turned 92 on Monday, is moving today. I see the moving truck across the street as I type this. It’s a sad sight. She is delighted about the move and change. She is going to Elkton, Maryland to be nearer one of her sons. She’s excited about her new apartment, excited about meeting new people and the new adventure awaiting her there.
I am happy for Clara but sad for me. I will miss her so much. She’s been a surrogate mom and grandmom at times. But mostly she has been a best friend.
I’ll miss seeing her out in front of her house pulling weeds or cutting flowers with her “bee bonnet” on and her floral garden boots that I gave her. She loves them.
I’ll miss having lunch with her and friends where she told us such great stories of her interesting life.

I was thrilled to see at The Barnes Collection that Dr. Barnes hung his art the same way I do…ceiling to floor…mixing artists and styles. He felt that there was much to be learned by having paintings and styles side by side to study them. I have long felt the same way.
I hang my art along with other artists that I have collected. It helps me to improve my own work.
I think that living with art surrounding every day help me helps me to see what I want to become as an artist.

I love this time of the year. There are loads of plums on the trees at the cabin and I feel so productive when I make jelly. Yesterday I turned out 20 jars! This is an annual tradition for me. Click here to read about how I did it.

Yesterday evening in downtown Front Royal we had the Fireman’s Parade. This is a phenomenon that I have only seen in Virginia. It happens during their big fundraiser – a carnival. The parade drives through downtown with all the fire equipment from the county fire stations as well as some surrounding areas. The highlight of the parade is the queens and princesses. Every fire hall has a few from newborns to high school girls and they ride through the parade in their fanciest gowns waving to their adoring public.
Watching the parade caused me and my friends who took a break from art class to watch (the parade goes right by the arts council where we hold classes) to talk about parades we had marched in when we were in school. And that caused me to recall that I had run across my old majorette uniforms recently. My mom made these. The bright green one was my favorite. It is made of some shiny eyelash type fabric that I remember that she had such trouble sewing but all the majorettes loved them. And the dark green one is velvet!
And, of course, when football season ended I cheered during basketball season so there were even more uniforms. We were Patterson High School Eagles! Green and White Fight, Fight! 🙂
The memories, oh, the memories!
