This spring retreat will span two days, taking you from the kitchen to the art easel with workshops including “Julia and You”–gourmet cooking techniques from the great Julia Child, and “Let’s Paint”–an awesome art experience in which you’ll be led step-by-step to create two works of art. Three meals per day are included along with all your supplies, materials, and take-home projects. All workshops and activities will take place at Sassafras Farm in Roane County, West Virginia.

While visiting with a good friend and great art teacher I ran across another painting from when I first started painting. It’s interesting seeing these old works.

One fun thing about going to visit old friends is seeing past paintings that I have done hanging in their homes. It’s very exciting! She has the first watercolor I ever painted back in 1997! Watercolor Magnolia.
Art Where You Find It

Over the past several years I have posted about finding art in unusual places. Look around. You see it everywhere…businesses, restaurants, homes, shops, museums, billboards, etc. But this week in my neighborhood we saw some special art. Almost everyday while walking my dogs, especially when we go to the dog park, I post on Facebook a photo of them “checking the Pee mail”. One of my neighbors granddaughter made an art sign that they posted by the fire hydrant in their front yard. It says, ” Public Restroom – All Dogs Welcome – Pee Mail Stop – Woof Woof”.
This is the best kind of art. You gotta love it!!!

Stolen Renoir Must Be Returned

I love reading any story about someone who buys a masterpiece at a thrift shop or garage sale or about stolen art that is recovered but this particular story was of interest as it happened just down the road from where we live. We have been following it since it was first reported.
Purchased for $7 because she liked the frame, Marcia “Martha” Fuqua learned later that she had an original Renoir. You would think she had hit the jackpot but it is not turning out that way.
Read the whole story on this link.
Fabulous Idea!

On our morning walk along the river path to the Dog Park my “kids” and I noticed something different. We go almost every day so if something is “out-of-place” we notice it. This was a box on a post. Turns out it is a small library built by a boy scout in our community as an Eagle Scout project. He built five and placed them in different parks around our town. You can take a book to read and replace it with one you have finished. Great Idea! And Great Project!
