Minnesota Truman

Minnesota Truman

Several weeks ago I shared with you a portrait I did of a basset hound named Truman who lived in Minnesota.  (See that here.)  Last week I got this wonderful photo of Truman with his portrait.  I love it.  But I am sad to report that old Truman is no longer with us.  His family had to let him go recently as his cancer had just gotten to bad to live with.  😦

I know that their Truman was well-loved and am so glad that they shared a small part of him with us.

Minnesota Truman

Minnesota Truman

A month or so ago I got an email from a man in Minnesota inquiring about a painting of a basset hound on my blog that he would like to purchase.  It was an older painting and it had already sold but I told him I would be happy to paint a portrait of his dog.  Turns out, his dog is a basset hound….named Truman!  So we shared stories and photos of his Truman and mine and I painted his Truman for him.

He got it yesterday in the mail and was pleased.  His Truman is very handsome.  Mine was too.  🙂

A small glimpse of the crowd at Barrel Oak Winery

A small glimpse of the crowd at Barrel Oak Winery

I spent a delightful afternoon at Barrel Oak Winery in Delaplane painting a Pet Portrait for W.A.A.A.G., a non-profit that helps prevent cruelty to animals and helps them find forever homes.

I met the nicest group of volunteers dedicated to their goal and I especially enjoyed meeting Harry, a wonderful dog that is looking for his forever home.  He was my model for the painting. Here are some scenes from the day and notes.

Last year I went to Florida to teach a Paint Party (read about that here) and met Canary.  Canary was found covered in yellow paint, thus the name Canary.  This lucky cat fell into the lap of luxury!  I started the painting right after I returned from Florida but just got around to wrapping it up.

May Pet Portraits

May Pet Portraits

We had a fun group painting their pet’s portraits yesterday.  I especially love it when people are painting portraits of pets they have lost and they tell wonderful stories about them.  Great job ladies.  These are special.

The next Pet Portrait Paint Party will be June 20th.  See you there!

I just completed this commission that was mailed off to Pennsylvania this week.  The person ordering the work had a very specific composition in mind for this pet portrait, as you can see here.  For me, it looks like the dog is photo bombing the landscape scene.  🙂
