Shenandoah – My Home

20141101_072142I have still been embroidering a lot lately.  My little Mamie has been sick so I have been spending time close to her which allows me to do needlework.

Here is one I really like.

Life is Better with Dogs!

"Life is Better with Dogs" pillow

“Life is Better with Dogs” pillow

“Life is Better with Dogs!” is the saying on this little embroidered pillow that I just finished.  And it is!  Everyone who knows me knows how I love my dogs….well, all dogs, but mine in particular.

And my little Mamie has been sick the past few days so I haven’t been painting but I have been doing some needlework while I stay near her.   So there is more embroidery to come.

I made the Soft Kitty embroidery piece into a pillow this week….as well as another little dog embroidery piece.

I like how they turned out.  Embroidery is so relaxing and a great hobby and the projects make great gifts!

Big Bang’s Soft Kitty

"Soft Kitty" embroidery

“Soft Kitty” embroidery

For all my Big Bang Theory friends out there, I saw this really cute little design for the Soft Kitty song and had to make a little embroidery piece.  I love Big Bang Theory and Shelton’s need to hear the Soft Kitty song in the first season was one of my favorites!

This piece measures 12″ x 10″.  I think I am going to make a pillow out of it.

SamplerWe had Part 2 of our Embroidery Class last night at The Studio-A Place for Learning.  I got my homework done so that I was ready to learn the next stitches – filler stitches.  (See Part I info here.)

Sandra Charles is an excellent and patient instructor.  The class had a terrific time showing what we had done so far.  And we can’t wait to get together again in the near future to show our finished work to one another.

It’s great to be able to try another creative form when you are accustomed to doing one type.  While I love painting I also love learning and trying something new.  Give it a try.  Check out the schedule at The Studio and try something new!

Practice piece for stitches we are learning

Practice piece for stitches we are learning

Art comes in all forms.  This week I began a piece of embroidery in a class that I am taking at The Studio.  I love the possibilities of working with thread and muslin.  You can make any design that you can imagine.

We worked on learning different stitches as well as started a small little sampler where we are practicing the stitches we learned.  Sandra Charles, our instructor, is a wonderful fiber artist and has so much patience helping us get it right.

This is the her sample of the piece we are doing for class.  Hopefully I will have mine to share after we finish our last class next Monday.  We’ll see.

And don’t forget that we have so many creative classes at The Studio.  It’s not just painting!  Check out the calendar here on our website for the most up-to-date information on upcoming classes.
