There has been so many great photos of students with their art to post lately that I didn’t want to forget to get this one in. Sam just joined my class about a month ago. She is a wonderful young artist and she just completed this beautiful painting of her dog Shadow who just turned one! Great job Sam! Keep up the good work.

Because of the really stormy weather we had yesterday I only had one young artist come to class yesterday. When this happens I let them choose what they want to paint from the paintings they may have missed in previous classes. Ethan chose to paint Lincoln. And what a great job you did Ethan! Wonderful. You can see what the other artists did with this painting last year by clicking here.

Yesterday at Kid’s class we had a great time painting something a little more challenging than usual. But the kids jumped right in and did a great job. We painted from this cute photo of my godson Chase with his dog Rue! They are waiting at the door for their dad to come home. Could he be any more cute?
Great job everyone!

A week ago on Monday morning while snow was coming down I got ready to go to work. I called the dogs to say goodby and there was no Jed. I continued to call and look and no Jed. Finally I heard a sound under the deck. He had crawled under and gotten stuck way up toward the house where there is just a little space between the deck and the ground. No matter how much calling and coaxing I did, he could not come out. The good news was this was not the first time this had happened. He did it last summer while I was away and the dog sitter had to get someone to cut a hole in the deck to get him out. So I thought, “Ok, I just need to remove the wood screws from these boards that were cut and replaced and he’ll pop right out”. Of course, it could not be that easy. My little drill wasn’t hardy enough to pull those heavy screws out. So I called Allen in a panic. He was out-of-town on a job an hour away. So I panicked again. I called several other people but no one was around. Finally Allen called back and said he reached his plumber who had the right equipment and would come by to help me. They arrived (father and son) about 10 minutes later and within another 10 minutes they had the boards up and a muddy Jed out of his trap. Woo Hoo! I was so relieved and so grateful. I didn’t know how to thank these guys (who are also dog lovers). Finally it occurred to me a couple of days later that everyone loves cupcakes so I made these chocolate pupcakes for them. I tried to make them look like Jed. They loved them. And I love Sunlite Plumbers! They did some plumbing work for me a few weeks ago and did a great job….plus they rescue stuck dogs on the side. What’s not to love about that???!!!

Sculpting a Dog

For several years now I have wanted to learn to sculpt. But I haven’t had any luck finding a class or instructor in my area so I just decided to give it a go myself. Last night while watching tv I started playing with this sculpting clay that I had and just kept working til this dog came out. 🙂 I think I would really like sculpting if I had the right materials. I am hoping to get some soon and try to do a few more pieces. I would really like to have some instruction and then I just want to play with it for a while. But for a first attempt I kind of like it!

Jeffie’s Famous Today
Posted in Dogs, tagged Dog-a-Day calendar on February 20, 2013| Leave a Comment »
I was sitting at my computer this morning working on editing photos for a posting about a flower arrangement that I painted last week when I tore off yesterdays calendar page and there he was. My Jeffie! I had forgotten that he would appear today on the “Dog-a-Day” calendar. I was surprised when I received the calendar and notice some months ago that he would appear. You can read about that here.
Jeffie was a wonderful, sweet rescue boy who was special to me. We miss him so much. And he can still make me smile every time I think of him. And now he can make everyone with this calendar smile today.
It’s President’s Day

On this President’s Day please indulge me as I celebrate “my presidents”. These are the great dogs that have been a part of my life since I have been in Virginia, most of them named for presidents or first ladies.
Happy President’s Day!
