Let the Games Begin

Let the Games Begin is an oil on 9″x12″ canvas and is available for $145.
This is another of those paintings that was started in art class and then I got busy helping students and never got back to it. I am trying to wrap up a few of these and get my stack of unfinished paintings eliminated. I’ll keep at it.
In the meantime, I wanted to share this photo from yesterday morning. My dogs often bark in the backyard, much to my neighbors dismay. This is what I saw laying in her yard and I’m thinking maybe that’s why the dogs are barking so much!

View of the Mountains XIV is an oil on canvas measuring 9″x12″ and is available for $165.
This is a view that I have painted many times as I use this photograph when teaching new students. I like it because it gives someone new to painting an opportunity to learn color mixing as well as several different compositional lessons.

The Path…. and Lincoln

Path Through the Woods is an oil on canvas measuring 11″x14″ and is available for $285.
Lincoln had his first visit to the cabin recently and discovered the fish. He was fascinated by them and I think they were curious about him as well.
He also spent a lot of time running through the tall grass and chasing butterflies. He’s such a funny little guy.
Like all the dogs I have taken out there though, he hasn’t learned to pace himself and he runs until his little tongue just hangs out! Hopefully he’ll learn soon.

Finishing Something…

About six weeks ago while out for a visit at the cabin, I went out with Jed and set up to paint a nice view on top of the mountain.
It was a really nice day and I got started before the sun got to be too awfully hot.
One thing about painting on location is that you have to get started quickly and paint because the light is always changing.
I try to move along quickly but sometimes I get distracted by Jed. 🙂
I get as far along as I possible can while on location.
And then when I get back to my studio I put on the finishing touches and try to make it a painting that’s ready to frame.
This is the finished product of Sunday in Plein Air, and oil on canvas measuring 12″x24″ and available for $245 (or $295 framed).

Helping Haiti

The Blue Ridge Arts Council (BRAC) is helping with a Haiti project for schools. There are several really large wooden boxes that they have asked to have painted that will be filled with supplies for school children and delivered soon. Our job, as volunteer artists, is to paint them in fun and exciting ways. I am working on a checkerboard top for one of the boxes.
Another artist worked on painting a scene on the box. These should be finished very soon and will be on the way to Haiti to aid the children there.

One of my regular Art Class students asked me a few weeks ago if I would work with her grandchildren when they visited this month. And, of course, I said yes. And boy did they turn out to be the most delightful kids. Evan and Lane are from Washington, DC but were here for a few days visiting the grandparents.
They came in with the best attitudes about taking the class and were all about having a good time and learning. What fun that makes it for me. 🙂
And for their first time in painting class, they both did an excellent job! Don’t you think?
Come back anytime. You were both so much fun.
